I was pleasantly surprised to hear very strong and stable sigs from VP8STI late
Wednesday evening (0445 UT) here, genuine 569 (maybe a bit more on peaks)
--receiving only on my modest "lazy L" w/32 radials. Hoped for even better
sigs at their SR, but things gradually slid after about 0500 UT,
Last night we had storms so I didn't listen on 160 because I had already
worked VP8STI on 160 the previous day, however Wednesday night/Thursday
morning VP8STI propagation was not unlike the same thing that often
happens here in Alabama. Up until about 0515Z (Jan 21) they were at ESP

Tonight on 160 VP8STI had a good signal. Here in Arkansas their signal
arrived from the NE from around 0115z until around 0200z peaking around 5
dB above my noise floor. Around 0200z they went "QRX" for a few minutes.
When they returned their sig was much weaker and finally faded.
As the evening
Not a peep from them all evening into New Mexico. Frustrating!

Never heard them here, Joel (near San Francisco). According to their

I noticed on the VP8 low band station diagram, that they were using 365 ft
beverage antennas. Does that make sense, or should that be in meters? Or do
they just use the SAL30?

Last night was frustrating trying to work VP8STI; The Hi-Z was indeed
a help as was the diversity & filtering to 50Hz but what I had at
that time and conditions didn't give me all I wanted. The QSB was
significant as I'd hear his call and then I'd call but would hear
nothing for 45 seconds and
rcle optimized for 160.

Similar obs here. They started out quite strong, went through a
period of deep in/out QSB and were unreadable at 0200. Their log is now
updated to 2016-01-21 18:50UT. FB operator down there!
