One excellent RX antenna that has not been mentioned here yet is the
rotatable Waller Flag, which JC, N4IS has written much about both on this
reflector and his website (Google is your friend). This works on small lots.
IIRC, it has the same RDF as a 580' Beverage, but is a mere 40' long. JC

Your results of the order of performance of these antennas are somewhat
different than other, published results. I wonder if the composition of
your ground would have something to do with that? Good or poor soil? Also,
how long was the Beverage?

This is possibly a more complicated subject than just performance. I gave a
lecture on this topic, comparing a Hi-Z circle 8, SAL-20, SAL-30, beverage

In this talk, I considered performance as a factor, but also considered

Hi,
I am on a small lot now and have barely been able to get signal out on 160
meters. A full size antenna for 80 meters won't really fit without some
"crunching". I am ever going to be a world beater on either of those bands but
I do get to play. On a couple of other mail reflectors we all
I always enjoy reading the experience that folks have with their
receiving antennas. The RDF and comparison charts that are published
these days are pretty accurate so you can get a very good feel for how
the antennas stand up against each other.
When it comes to the question of "Which RX
to be to fit.
Overall, I am glad I have it, it's certainly a compromise but a decent one.

Hi again folks
As a minority report by one, IMO the simplest, smallest, cheapest, good
RDF receive antenna is the DHDL. RDF around 9, pretty good for $20 of
wire, one BN-73-202, one resistor, some string and two trees (free here)
or supports 65' apart. Ground rods for a 200' BOG will cost more, take
more
If it hasn't already been mentioned, here's something to watch:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fyZR9uMBnIo all about receive antennas.
about an hour in W3LPL gets into more detail about high and low Z circle
arrays. I'm definitely thinking about this on a neighbour's land.

Hi again folks,
Got some great advice from several others. 'Shared Apex'; KD9SV bi-directional
beverage recommended; K9AY (guess I need to get busy and finish mine); Hi-Z 8
along with Waller-Flag at 95' head and shoulders above others (but expensive
and tough to build); both K9AY and
I am using a Hi-Z 8 here along with a Waller Flag?? (From N4IS es TopBand
Systems) at 95 feet. In the past I had up a K9AY antennas, several short
beverages and several Ewe's. I also had up a low dipole at one time.
What I am using now is head and shoulders above any of the above listed
This is a really good answer. Thanks Tim.

Hi folks,
I have four kits purchased on ebay for receive antennas as well as a
bi-directional beverage from KD9SV. Looking on my county plot map it looks like
I can run about a 412' beverage using my neighbors ground and mine. Got a good
neighbor you could say who just doesn't want a BOG to
