The important thing is that it's easy to find DC plugs/PSU to fit the
SB3 (and by implication the Touch) whereas the with the Duet, it was a
nightmare.

I am in a similar spot (starting from scratch) and have just discovered
the Vortex box on this thread.
I have a MacBook Pro and was about to purchase a Time Capsule to both
have an auto backup for my laptop and replace an aging router. Can I
plug the Vortex Box directly into the Time Capsule? Wi
It would be a serious error on Logitec's part if you couldn't, as to the
OS a USB pendrive and a USB HDD are basically the same thing.

Is this possible? I know you'll be able to plug in a USB memory stick
with songs on and the Touch will find them and index/start playing them.
However, will you be able to attach an external hard drive via USB and

Any opinions regarding the best power source for a USB drive connected
to the SBT?
I am wondering if this would have any impact on the sound quality. I am
thinking of jitter and noise effects on the sound. An independently
powered USB drive would result in less strain on the power supply of the

Yes. You can plug in a harddrive to the TOUCH and the built in "tiny"
SbS will allow you to play that music. But the TOUCH and its built in
tiny SbS will not look across your network for the music files stored on
your NAS.
You have two options. (1) Run a full blown SbS on your NAS and then it

Let me re-phrase: My music is stored on a NAS. Will - or will I not -
need Squeezeserver installed on the NAS if I use the Touch?

The Server is running on the Touch but you need something to store your
music. For this you normally would connect an usb-drive to the Touch.

Is this correct meaning I don't need a Squeezeserver where my music is
stored (on a NAS)? Or is this only true if I connect a
harddisk/USB-stick directly to the Touch?

Further to what Gary said, the Touch is a USB *host*, not a device. So
you wouldn't be able to plug it into a PC and have it recognised as a
sound device, this is not what it is designed to do.
