Nice thread! I have the exact same question - I need a usb powered hard
drive, less than 500GB would do. So what should I buy, WD or Toshiba?
(or something else?) I googled some of the recommended hard drives and
got scared from all the bad reviews (I would like to keep my hard drive

Hello,
a few week's ago an update was automaticly installed on my squeezebox
touch.
There was no chance to denied, so I had to agree to this.
Since this time i have got the same problem too.
When i start up my squeezebox-touch it's running well and i am able to

I am also having the same problem, rating doesn't work on the Touch when
holding down the number botton.
My guess is the Touch is handling the keypress, you see the image
wobbles a bit and a beep to indicate the key press has been received,
but rejected. It probably didn't pass the keypress to th
I used the setup described above and it worked fine with the SD card: I
was able to transfer MP3 files to the SD card. Now I use a hard disk on
the touch and I do not seem to be able to connect to the SB Touch using
my XP computer.

If it was WMA Lossless then it might actually work (on SqueezePlay in
7.6 anyway...). But it's totally uncompressed WAV! Wasting 2x as much
bandwidth as they need to be.

BAD Microsoft for spec'ing an inefficient format. GOOD Microsoft for
donating lots of money to KEXP, which is an incredible station, which
makes them feel like they have to make the stream WMA lossless instead
of a more efficient format

Glad you are enjoying your Touch, here run the Transporter.
my server runs 24 hrs continuously @ 5 watts max.
it's SqueezeBoxserver running on a plug computer called SHEEVAPLUG and
an external usb 1tb Western Digital drive which is "green".
have a look at the 3rd party hardware section for furth
The problem is this stream is actually WAV (!) wrapped in ASF. Which we
don't support obviously. Maybe it wouldn't be that hard to support in
SqueezePlay though...

I don't have this problem since I wired my Touch , just a data point .
I also run 7.6 beta ? maybe the fix is in that release.
My server is also wired an 1,2GHz via-epia x86 mobo so not
superfast, but not glacially slow as an old NAS.
Btw don't use the 7.6 beta if your are not prepared for some

For the moment, I am okay with the "rudimentary" internal server.
But of course it's nice to know that we can switch to an external
server with extended possibilities (and extended power consumption :-(
) later.
We will see - maybe the expectations raise after some time...
And I will definitely
An unsupported combination - Softsqueeze works because an external
decoder is being used - without specifying the OS the explanation gets
too long to write.
The work around - under WebUI Settings/Advanced/Filetypes disable
"Native"
for Windows Media NOT WMA lossless.
