Software like FLAC Tester or Audio Tester can verify if the big FLAC
file is OK or corrupt.

Just got a new touch and noticed there were RX errors:
This is taken about 3 mins after a reboot playing FLAC and OGG files,
and steadily increases over time:

You mean fixed Volume? Just slide the Volume to 100% and leave it. :)
There was a Applet for Fixed Volume, look in Settings > Advanced >
Applet Installer, not sure it is still offered.
Turn off Sound Effects: Settings > Audio > Sound Affects > *none*

I recently bought a Touch having previously used a SB3 for a couple of
years. Am I right in thinking that some of the functionality has
changed in SB server, for example, there appears to be no facility to
set volume any longer? Nor can I turn off sound effects as there is no
facility to do so?
