Hello,
I would like to buy a SB Touch, but i have one question before !!
I'm using an iMac, under Mac OS X (Snow Leopard, and soon Lion).
I use VLC (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/) in order to read my DVD's or
divx.
I have a video projector connected to the iMac, and i would like to

It is possible to play audio from VLC but there will be a buffering and
network delay and so video and audio will be out of sync. So to watch
a movie you would need to alter video/audio timing manually and even
then it not be acceptable to watch a movie

Well, here is one other happy user (+family) very grateful for this fix.
We have been trying to get to the Radio4 Desert Island Discs Archive -
the otherwise wonderful iPlayer plugin is not applicable here. Tried
using my Mediafly account but could not find it there. Then tried the

There's no other solution ? Using an other player ?
The same problem with any player - for audio to go from PC to SB player
- it has to be buffered, transmitted over network and then replayed -
this takes time whereas the video stays on the PC and so has no delay.

All the archives (incl Desert island discs) are available with the BBC
iPlayer Extra plugin although there is a Squeezeplay bug with 7.6 which
I have to fix.

Many thanks for the info and the work on this. So far I have chosen to
keep as far as possible to recommended 3rd

OK, thanks again for your answer.
So, the SB Touch is not the
I tried to do this via USB stick and the touch would allow in standalone

Here is the procedure that works for me:
on a separate computer download the fab4xxx.bin file and copy it to the
usb stick. Unplug the Touch from power, plug the USB stick in, plug the
power back in.
After it boots go to
Settings/Advanced/Software Update

So, the SB Touch is not the solution for me :-(
Well if you are a linux hacker you could probably figure out how to do
it with netjack2, this has very low latency on a local LAN and a
version that sits on a PC, it looks like an ASIO
I just copy the bin file to the root of my attached USB drive and I
don't have to reboot or power off the touch to see the bin file. When I
go to settings/advanced/software update it shows both the 7.6 update AND
the bin file I just copied to the root. Obviously I choose the update I
just put
Why dont you go from your mac straight to the hifi ?

Does the Squeezebox Touch support Apple lossless (ALAC) natively? I
realize that Squeezebox is able to convert ALAC to FLAC on the fly but
I am asking about native support in the player. If yes I may favor
using ALAC (mainly to ease use on an iPod, without having to make
multiple format

That's exactly how it has worked for me, too.

I use vomue control of my Touch. I do not go down to 50%. Usually 80 -
100. Since I'm using vintage gear (Eico HF-81) I do not have another
way to control volume other than walking across room. Also using Music
Hall DAC with upgrade Mullard tube.
Congrats on your new Touch!

Hey guys, some updates. The DH Labs DH-75 coax cable arrived. It sounds
excellent, much better than the free Logitech cable I was using one
half of whilst waiting :D
I've also applied all Soundcheck's mods and Dynaudiorules' new mods too
