The Touch is very much the weak point in your scenario and is quite an
old (relatively speaking) design.
This was designed for 24 bit / 96k - this has been "tweeked" to allow
192K playback but this is probably the highest rate that could be
achieved.
Also the usb was originally for input only (

The Touch wasn't designed for 192K or USB output - it could just be

I can vouch for the fact that it does - 192k though is VERY DAC
Most "5V" things allow for a supply of 5V +/- 5% - so 4.75V to 5.25V.
I certainly wouldn't like to run it on a supply outside this range.

Are you using optical or coax SPDIF - Optical is not guaranteed to work
at 192k especially from the touch (only designed for 96k).
try using coax if you can to see if this is the problem.

If you're thinking of upgrading the LMS on you readynas it may be better
to consider going to ver 7.9 - this has many benefits over 7.8 including
faster scan times.
The readynas version is available from:
http://downloads.slimdevices.com/nightly/?ver=7.9 then
logitechmediaserver-7.9.0-1455226217
I had to replace mine due to a leaky battery - I got mine direct from
Logitech as they were just as cheap as any I could find on ebay or
amazon.

I'm a bit late picking up on this but it looks like it's been answered
by the gurus that know more about it than I do.

Ok thanks for that - somehow I just expected it to update to 7.9

I've just updated LMS on my Readynas Duo to 7.9.0-1444123081 and thought
I'd update my touch to the latest firmware - this reports that it's up
to date with revision 7.8.0r16754.
Is this the latest version of the touch firmware? If not how do I get it
to update?
Thanks
Some USB sticks are horribly SLOW and that will definately cause
problems with high def files - 16bit 44.1k really should work OK
though.
I've got a back up of my music on a USB hard drive which I occasionally
use connected directly to the Touch, this includes some 24bit 192k stuff
and these play
Just a thought - make sure the setting in Audio Settings -> Digital
Output is for Digital Only - if this is set for Analog + Digital this
will limit you to 96kHz.
