I'm pleased to say that installing philippe_44's 3rd party plugin
"squeeze2upnp" appears to have solved my problem.
After "bumbling" my way through the settings instructions for a few
hours the Oppo now shows up as a player in both LMS and the SBT. I've
used an optical cable between the SBT and
I don't think that the 203 model has that capability, but the 205

Thank you for your replies.
I will give the optical cable suggestion a try.
One other question - do I need to also connect a USB cable between the
SBT and the Oppo?

It would indeed be more normal for a BDR to have digital audio OUTs than
ins. I found a reference to the connection on the rear being inputs, but
if that isn't what it says in the manual then they are almost certainly
outputs.

Hardware: 3x Touch,
Looking at the manual, it's not clear to me that the Oppo can be used in
the way you want. There are no S/PDIF inputs and the USB inputs on the
front and rear panels are not the typical USB "B" type used for this
purpose. Plus, there is no description in the manual of how the device
can be used
Since when did a blu ray player have an digital INPUT?
(And, you are using the external DAC in your AVR if you use an optical
cable from.the SBT to it..)

Firstly, I apologize if this is a silly question, but I have never used
an external DAC before, only the SBT's built in one by plugging an
optical cable into my Denon AVR.
I've just bought an Oppo UDP-203 Blu-ray player which features a built
in 32-bit DAC from AKM, the AK4458VN, which is an
