Thank you for your responses. It appears it had nothing to do with the
drive. I went to an older version of SBS (7.5.6) and it looks like
it's going to work. At least it's scanning now!

You might have a Touch, but your problem is related to Squeezebox Server
on your Mac, not the Touch itself.
You won't find many references to Firewire, especially now, it's kind
of a dead interface (which is a shame, I always preferred it to USB).

Use firewire as a connection between what?
If you mean have a firewire drive plugged into your Mac with your music
on it, rather than a USB drive used in the same way, there's no
difference as far as SBS is concerned.
