If I run the SB Server on a NAS with a 1.2Ghz processor, will the scan
speed faster than the Touch?
I am thinking to get Seagate 2 TB Goflex Home NAS which will have a
Sleeveplug support. For 50 $ more than the 80 $ 2TB hard drive, I think
it is more practical than the Sheevaplug + WD hard drive

If the only inconvenience is the setting-up, a one-time thing, I can
certainly live with it. I am very happy to spend 4 hours for setting-up
to save 400$.

One of the things you're paying for with a Vortexbox Appliance (VBA) is
the convenience of a solution that works out of the box. Not only is all
the software set up for you, but the hardware is powerful enough to run

Thanks, Garym
I guess I will get a second hard drive and rotate the two every month
so I don't have to plug-unplug-scan often after transferring files. In
any case, I need another drive to back up the music.
I can't find vortexbox in Canada.

Thank you, everyone.
I am confused with different appliances like "server", "media station",
"network drives", "NAS","hard drive cloud edition", "media sharing
device", etc.
Can they function as a stand-alone server for the Touch via a home
router? Obviously some have no storage but more USB po
The Touch has only been out about a year and a half, but I agree with
garym that it is very unlikely that there will be much, or maybe even
any, significant work on TinySBS in the future.
On the other hand, a server does not have to cost 5 times the hard
drive. For example, a Sheevaplug works fin

TinySBS works fine for some people, intermittently for some, and never
for some others. It depends partly on music library size, partly on USB
hard drive chosen, and other factors, including user patience.

My best advice is to give up on TinySC.
I bought this device in the belief that it would stream music from my
powered, external USB HDD. It actually does, but when it feels like
doing it.
After many interruptions and rage fits, I decided to put more money
into it and bought a PC to handle the mu
After disabling autorescan and the sync, I transferred 2G files via wifi

However, when I attached the hard drive to the Touch again and tried to
