Do your files play on your computer?
What kind of files are they? flac, mp3, etc.
Are they standard 2 channel stereo audio files and not multichannel
audio files?
Is the volume set at 100%?

If you are getting a loud hum it could mean that it is either not
connected properly or the output is too high for your amp, but then you
have used different amps, try a different input on the amp as some have
different sensitivity. Are the interconnects touching and shorting
out, disconnect one
D*mn, I did some extra experimenting this afternoon, just before packing
it and it worked ok with a headphone???
Turns out one of the inputs on my amps is defect.
The good news I've got music, the other inputs are still okay, the bad
news of course is that my beloved perfect amp, a 12 year old

You did not try to use the phono input if it has one , that one is
only made for Lp players and their pickups a line level signal is a
couple of 1000 time to strong to begin with and then it is the riaa eq.
