You can browse the music folder or you can browse the database, which is
filled with the tags. I.e. you can browse by year, by artist, by album,
etc. I think there's some options to make conductors and bands show up
under artist (not sure). And there are some more sophisticated (and
complicated)

I'll definitely try the squeezeplay to get an idea of the browsing.
And I'll have a look at those browsing plugins. I have to say that I
really like the fact the squeezebox server is open source.

Note that while either SqueezePlay or SoftSqueeze are excellent no-cost
introductions to Squeezebox technology, they are more limited than the
actual hardware SBs. For example, SqueezePlay won't play Pandora unless
