I'm almost certain this is a specific stream issue - for example an mp3
World Service stream doesn't exhibit the interference - while another
aac World Service stream does.
Who knows? It's just a very small irritation which I can live with!

Quick test:
BBC Radio 2 & World Service both start with this slight crackle - both
aac.
Radio 3, 4 and 5 don't start with interference - all aac.
I'll try some others later.

Are they higher bit rate streams that cause the noise? I could be that
some streams cause a large spike in CPU usage due to pre buffering and

Not normal, but can happen. Optical is immune to such line noise. This
could be emanating from most anything electrical, some of the most
common culprits are psu's and mains lines themselves. Maybe a
grounding issue?

I've noticed that if I use the RCA output to my amp, then when I switch
to certain radio streams there's a slight electronic buzz as the stream
connects.
There's no such buzz if I use the optical link.
Is this normal?
