Well, while I am waiting around for Sandy to hit I got around to hooking
up the new Touch to the Audioengine D1 DAC and the A2s. I connect the
Touch to the DAC using an optical cable, and am listening to it now. I'm
very happy with the sound. The only thing I have to figure out is the
DAC...it doe

Nice one cjfreitag, I use a pair of A2's when I'm working out at sea on
ships. Very small but they pack a decent punch. They sound really good
with my Macbook Air and HRT Music Streamer 2+, even when the big waves
start crashing against the ship in stormy weather ;)

Ok, I went to B&H yesterday to check out the A2 speakers. Fortunately
they had a set powered up, and while it was not the ideal listening
environment at least I was able to play some ALAC files off my iPhone to
get an idea of the sound. Well, I walked out of the store with a pair of
speakers and t
What about Kingrex T-20 amp and John Blue JB3 speakers? That combo has
some very good reviews out there.

I think I have narrowed it down to Audioengine. I'll get the D1 DAC and
marry it with either the A2 or A5+ speakers. Why the DAC? It will allow
to use the speakers with my Touch (via optical) or my Mac (via USB). I'm
going over to B&H tomorrow to see the speakers. I think the 5s will be

I use a pair of Fostex PM0.4 on my office PC and they're pretty cool. I
do recording on it so they need to be fairly flat. Not really
punchy/deep enough to be fun on my kind of music, though.
Sticking with Logitech (yay!), this will seem a strange suggestion but

Yes - I guess the looks are mostly dictated by the all-aluminium
construction.

Ah, does that rule out the Genelecs? :)

Good powered speakers including DAC are emerging now, it may be also a
alternative to consider.

Another (and perhaps) possibility would be a mini-amp, and some
suitably-sensitive bookshellf speakers.
Google for 'Class T' amplifiers to get an idea of what's available, if
you haven't come across them before.

I'm going to use my "spare" Touch for audio instead of relying on my
computer. My main Touch is hooked up to a Denon AV receiver in the other
room. For this installation, I'm considering the following options:
