Can someone explain how the Random Mix works. I would think that if I
selected, Random Mix, then Artist Mix I would then select an artist and
his or there music would play randomly. Instead you select Artist Mix
and it only allows you to select play. and it plays any artist.

Um, they're selected randomly. I believe it uses the 'Perl 'rand'
function' (http://perldoc.perl.org/functions/rand.html) if you want to
know

I don't believe there's any sort of intelligence to it.

Many thanks to all :-)
How are the files randomly selected? Is there a formular how SBS
selects which file to play first out of all the files I have?

Try it and see what happens. I'll bet you figure it out much faster than
anyone could explain it.

I am at home now and I've just selected the type of styles to exclude
from the random mix, eg Christmas.
What I see too on the Random Mix page in the SBS - NOw Playing will
show '10' upcoming songs and '10' recently played songs.
How does the above work? Can I increase this number higher then 10
Many thanks.

and if you don't see it there, make sure the associated plugin is
installed. You can check that in the web ui using Settings > Plugins.
It's a Logitech plugin (not 3rd party), and I thought it was installed
by default, but maybe the package for your NAS doesn't install it.

If you are looking at the web interface, choose My Music. Random Mix is
down about 6 selections from the top.

Thanks Gents.
I am running SBS on my QNAP NAS. I have not noticed any Random List
option in SBS. Can you point me to where it is?
I am not at home now.

No, not at all. Squeezebox Server always has a 'current playlist' for
every player. Random Mix just keeps feeding tracks into the current

No, you don't need to make a playlist first. Just start playing
something using Random Mix. Whenever SBS is playing it has a "current
playlist". That could be a single track that is selected, the tracks of
an album that has been selected, or a saved playlist.
One thing you may want to do re setup

Why would you think that? Random Mix doesn't do anything terribly
complicated. It just does a database query to find the next file that
it's going to load into the current playlist. Since the next song to be
played is already in the playlist, you shouldn't have any pauses between
tracks. Just avo
Is there an efficient method to play FLAC files randomly from the touch?
I can see a 'Random' option but I am using a QNAP NAS and the SBS is
sinstalled in the NAS.
I would think using the 'Random' feature in the touch would be taxing
on the NAS and slow playback between files?
