It does automatically if you haven't fiddled to much withbthe file

How do you get the server to downsample the higher rate files? I
downloaded a 192/24 flac file by

I noticed this evening after having spent several days converting tons
and tons of 24/96 and higher flac files to Apple Lossless that the
Squeezebox Touch transcodes the Apple Lossless files to a substantially
lower bitrate but does not transcode the flac files. I could even hear
the difference, a
This was my first post here and I just want to add a "thank you" for the
quick response to my post.
The Touch is an excellent product at a great price. DAC's may come and
go but the Touch is here to stay :-)

I would love to get a better DAC. I never realized that the Rega DAC
had date rate lights.. very nice!! That's the one thing I really
liked about the DacMagic.

Just say "transcoded" and nothing else if determine the correct bitrate
for a transcoded stream is tricky to do .
Ok, I guess my imagination is working overtime. The other thing that I
did within the last couple of days is switch from an external DAC
(Grant DAC-09) back to the Touch's analogue output. Maybe that's when
the sound stage changed so much.. no idea???

Ik, I'll do more comparing but the difference seemed so significant that
I didn't pursue it any further. The difference seemed identical to the
difference I observed when listening to 24/96 files directly from my
iMac's optical (SPDIF) out to a DacMagic, that I use to own, while
forcing the outpu
Yeah, that value is just indicating it's being transcoded and doesn't
reflect the true bitrate. We should probably remove it, it causes a lot
of confusion.

I've got a Touch that I've been using to stream 24/96 flac files of
vinyl transfers. I've implimented the Soundcheck's Mods and had the
Squeeze Server configured to do the flac decoding. The Squeeze Server
is running on an iMac and the Touch is connected to the network by
direct ethernet. I'm u
