Is the DAC on the Touch technically better than that in the Duet
Receiver, or equivalent ?

It's technically somewhat better lower better s/n ratio lower distorsion
lower noise and wider freq response (24/96 samplerate)

In addition to the DAC itself, many on this forum (including some whom I
regard as quite knowledgeable on the subject) have claimed that the
audio quality of the Touch is also better because of a cleaner signal
path (ie, less noise) within the unit. Or something like that.
Yeah the digital outs are also claimed to be better .
As a digital transport it sure is as good as it gets in practice . ( my
main hifi is in my signature ).
But I do not use the internal DAC in any critical position I tried it
briefly with my old amp and speakers years ago and it was ok I fi

Damn, knew it was a mistake posting after a few days of business travel,
long work days and minimal sleep.
Yep, it was the Touch that I meant. I haven't got the Touch or the
Receiver to
Thanks for input!
I think I will go for another Touch. The open source Touch will
hopefully last longer, now that Squeezebox-support ends.
Touch is a newer design, and maybe better hard-ware?

Yes, no question. The Touch is far superior to the Duet in virtually
every way.

I wasn't very clear on that. What I meant was that for some people the
small size of the Duet is important since it can be tucked away, for
other people the 24/96kzh capability of the Touch is important.

that shouldn't be the deciding factor unless you happen to only have an
exact Receiver-sized slot available.

I have the Touch, SB3 and Duet. The Touch sounds best of the lot via
analog outs (and tests best in Stereophile test reports). The Duet
presently is used with a dac in the HT processor in a 5.1 theatre setup
to play music in that room. But the critical 2 channel listening room
gets the Touch
If I understand this correctly, my server software is on the Vortexbox
Appliance - would I ever have to modify anything on my Squeezebox as
long as I´m only using it for transport?

my advice. buy a touch (they are discontinued, but still available). Use

I´m looking for a new Squeezebox. I´ve been happy with both the Touch
and the Radio.
This time I need a Squeezebox for my headphones. I will use a separate
DAC, so the sound quality shouldn´t be an issue?
I use a Vortexbox Appliance as server.
What would be the best transport; Duet or Touch?

I'm trying to decide between the Touch and Duet. What are the
fundamental differences I should know about them (aside from the
location of displays) ?
They are almost the same price on Amazon.
I am interested in using Squeezebox primarily to play classical
recordings with maximum fidelity.

Are you saying that aside from price (which is negligible at least at
Amazon) there are features on the Touch that I would not have on the
Duet? Please advise. Thanks.

Unless you really want the fancy handset, the controller, there is no
reason at all not to get the Touch. In other words, the Touch is better
at everything else but the remote/controller.

A SB Touch gives pretty astonishing sound quality when used with good
amplifier and speakers.
Check out the Amazon.com customer review distribution on both products,
and I think you will detect a higher satisfaction rate with the Touch
than the Duet.
The Controller part of the Duet solution
if you register another Logitech product (online). My wife registered an
older mouse (she was trying to fix a problem) and instantly we got a
20% off next purchase code in an email.
Earlier that day I made the decision to purchase the Touch - so I got
it for $240 with free shipping direct from
in my experience the wifi signal for touch is far superior.

+1 for the touch.
I have both and do find that the touch is less prone to technical
foibles.
The controller on the duet is nice however as you will read in a few
posts the screen can dim over time and mine is now only readable in
very low light conditions.
