After killing and restarting the keyring which fixed Network Manager,
then Chromium developed a slow start problem caused by gnome-keyring.

I get the same behaviour from gedit. It seems any application relying

It seems the difference between my two test machines is that one one I

If you think the problem is related to cgroups (there really is no
application log in ~/.cache/upstart and no clues in ~/.xession-errors),
try watching the systemd output (use 'journalctl -f | tee ~/jc.log') for
messages related to cgroups or alternatively, apparmor.
