I am having the same issues. I had no problems with my sound on my HP
15-ay041wm in 18.04, however now that I have upgraded to 18.10 I have no
sound whatever. Additionally,
sudo alsa force-reload
does nothing for me.

Tablet always starts in portrait orientation mode unless I hold it
absolutely vertically. The Log In screen appears in landscape mode which
is correct, but then, when I log in, the device switches to portrait. So
each time I use the device, I need to start from lifting it up

it's not obvious, so I didn't know that.
I believe this is a good idea to add a short info on 3-finger-tap gesture to
the "black screen [tutorial] telling how to use 3 fingers to use the side
stage".
