As commented earlier by Michi, caching is generally nice and we actually
put effort recently to display cached results (if possible) in Ubuntu
store scope. Closing this bug.

I agree. Caching is nice. At least there is *something* on screen.
We have branch pending that adds push_surfacing_results_from_cache() to
the Reply proxy. The run time caches all surfacing queries
transparently. If scope gets a surfacing query and detects that it can't
answer it (network down, or
Ill double check with the team, but I do believe this is the news scope
itself doing the caching, but to me that seems to be the correct
behavior. Why would a user prefer a completely blank scope rather than
the latest cached data?

I remember looking at that briefly before Xmas. The news scope creates a
whole bunch of cache files under $HOME/.local (or maybe $HOME/.cache, I
forget which). So, I'd say it's the scope itself that's responsible.

It does refresh, but displays the same again, so seems like the news
scope is doing some internal caching.

There is no caching of results in the scopes run time. In step 4 above,
does the shell actually re-send the query to the scope and re-display
them? If so, the scope itself must be doing the caching. Or,
alternatively, the shell doesn't re-send the query and just displays
what was there before?
--
No, I can't, this is all handled by scopes api and scopes themselves,
we're only asking them for results, not caring whether network is there
or not.

I can reproduce it in image 169 (RTM proposed, 119 ES): cached content
is displayed and test case says it must be blank. But I think some
changes landed for scopes to display cached content. Saviq, can you
confirm?

In the regression test, this bug is linked to this test case:

Omer, can you please describe what exactly are you seeing? Which scope
at least? What is it you expect, what is it you see?
