Can you please elaborate on what unable to log in means, i.e. what
happens? Does the computer freeze, or are you taken back to the login
screen?
Also, can you please let us know the contents of ~/.xsession-errors and
~/.xsession-errors.old when you log in via console right after a failed
attempt
