Public bug reported:

Simple attempted apt update/upgrade on Ubuntu 22.04 Desktop kernel
version 5.15.0-40-generic with systemd-boot as boot loader, failed.

The error was returned on running 'apt autoremove' concerning kernel
version 39 files.

Most likely a failure of sd-boot's kernel-update functionality due in
part to its absence of hooks for Ubuntu.
