Title:
  Editing lightdm.conf causes boot failure

Status in lightdm package in Ubuntu:
  Won't Fix

Bug description:
I uncommented the enable and the port number lines in the lightdm.conf file
and the machine failed to boot.
I reinstalled and got the same result when I tried it again. Both
installations used the same daily live install disk downloaded on 6/25/11.
I fixed it by rebooting into recovery mode and running dpkg.
