Thank you for recommending Kongoni to him, flop! That one popped into my
head, but I thought it was Fedora-based, not Slackware-based.

I am myself most happy with Trisquel, but I am not a computer expert, so I do
not know if it does not provide enough flexibility for certain tasks. In any
case, since you mention your preference for Slackware, perhaps you should
have a look to Kongoni -it is on the list of the FSF and is base
Just go to Synaptic (or "sudo apt-get install kde") and install "kde". It is
a metapackage that will install and configure automatically all the modules
related to the KDE Desktop -it won't install development packages-. On your
next session you will be able to select KDE as your desktop.

In synaptic, when I select to install Python3, it doesn't say that anything
will be uninstalled in the process.
I agree with you about the good coordination of the Trisquel team. I am
certainly not a person to judge things superficially, but when I first heard

I am not sure of the reason GNOME was chosen. Some like it better. Both are
Free Software, and powerful, and it's really a preference for what works best
for each person. Myself, I prefer GNOME.

Is there a way to switch from GDM to KDE? I'm more familiar and comfortable
with KDE.

To get multiple Python's versions, when installing from source you
should use altinstall to avoid breaking the system.
Replace the default Python version isn't generally a good idea since
many apps may turns broken (expecially replacing python < 3 with python
>= 3).

Can anybody tell me how Trisquel is secured or point me to docs on it?
Mainly, I'd like to know if it's using selinux, apparmor, anti-viris, and
chkrootkit. And info on the firewall would also help.

Where does Trisquel keep stuff like Web server files and the Mysql DB? I'm
planning on partitioning my HDD and I want to make sure that stays on it's

I would ... but, it seems that the mysql db option feature is diabled or
removed in the version I get from the repo. I very much need it due to the
large music library I have; 160GB+. With the standard setup; sqlite I
believe, it is very very very very very very slow. I've also become

I initially tried to install through synaptic, but I canceled when I saw that
it was going to remove the entire system. I then tried to install from

See the link below for a discussion about this. Apparently it's impossible
(or more work than it's worth) to default to Python3 even after installing it
properly. Perhaps that's different in Slackware?

Today I had this wireless card delivered. Put the card in the ExpressCard
slot, booted up into Trisquel, and the card connected to the network
immediately (only G speeds, though).

We're sad to see you go. :(
How did you try to install Python3 initially, from Synaptic or from source?
"sudo apt-get install python3" also works. The one is our repos is a older

some bug exists.

I love Free Software and am very much looking forward to the new Trisquel.
Hope to see it soon.

Okay, I think I figured out what happened. When I installed Python3, it
removes python2.6, which in turn removes the trisquel base system. (So, you
can't have multiple versions of the same package?) I tried fixing the issue
by reinstalling the base system again, but it ended up breaking sy
