in a major way than they invented it. According to Wikipedia,

Sounds familiar. It took me hours to get xorg.conf working on my gNewSense

How long ago was that? Because those issues don't occur for me on newer
operating systems like Trisquel 5.0+.
FWIW I'll add my opinion on licensing:
I'll accept any Free Software license. If two similar software packages are
licensed under permissive and copyleft licenses, I'll choose the best one in
terms of quality.
When it comes to choosing a license for my own projects, I would /probably/

Some argue XFS to be more robust file system than EXT4.
EXT4 can be faster when dealing with small files. XFS can be faster with big
files.
You can search for XFS vs EXT4 performance benchmarks from www.phoronix.org.
In the end it doesn't matter much which you chose because both are very goo
ext4 and xfs are different file systems for formatting a storage device. The
actual differences between the two are pretty technical, and not particularly
relevant for average users. If you want to know more, try reading the
Wikipedia pages for ext4 and xfs.

So that's it about Apple and "innovation" then.
Apple is a very nasty company¹ and the praise of Apple is completely and
totally unfounded. I can't to the best of my ability say anything good about

Don't get Me wrong - I love Trisquel but I have a few questions.
I normally run a 'duel boot' hard disc but initially I installed Trisquel to
the total hard disc just to see what it did.
I then re-installed it as a duel boot on an ext 4 partition.
So My questions are :-

I misused some words but yes I was not totally wrong :D Thank you for

Just one last question. I know how we can specify a licence for a software (I
already have done), but how can we do this for art ? For example, inside a

The FSF fully supports the LGPL and recommends it when it appropriate. Here
is its opinion (from the same article as earlier):
If your project is a library, and developers are already using an established
alternative library released under a nonfree or permissive license, then we

You did not get the FSF opinion quite right. It is not about preferring a
permissive license whenever an equivalent proprietary application exists. It
is about preferring a permissive license to push a free format competing
against a proprietary one (Opus vs. MP3, WebM vs MPEG-4, etc.). This
I think we have to forget statistical methods while our sample is still
relatively small and opt for a general description (and ratings for easy
access to h-node users) of the vendors. Many vendors will get a bad score but
that unfortunately only reflects reality. This is something we should

The strength of using a permissive license is using it for software that will
be used as libraries and be linked to from both free and propreitary
software. The LGPL also serves this purpose, but I have read that many
lawyers who advise companies tell them to be weary of LGPL licensed softwar

Sorry for my mistake. To be honest I was very surprise to see Free Software
developed by Apple.
IM software are not reducible to the format used for audio encryption, i.e.,
Pidgin and Skype can use the same audio codec yet not be compatible. There
is, in particular, a whole protocol on top of the codecs.

Apple, and what part of they invented?
Look, if I remember correctly both machines I set up showed similar
behaviour:
Both have PATA drives, had already Linux installed and a pre-partitioned
drive.
Generating one preformated ext3 partition on the HDD "solved" the issue.
Unfortunately I do not feel like re-installing the last box,

Hi, this is a very interesting topic.. H-node is born with the aim of
collecting hardware and many steps have been carried out in order to make its
information useful for the free software community. Many other steps have to be

We should distinguish between sellers and vendors. At h-node.
You are entirely right except for the second point.
A GPL code cannot be integrated (even by linkage) to a non-GPL application.
An LGPL code can be linked to any other code but the changes to the actual
LGPL code must be under this same LGPL license. This make sense when making a

I totally agree that it isn't an excuse (even if it helps Gnu/Linux and the
