If you want to find free software compatible hardware, you should try
h-node.org. Its a free software friendly hardware database. Please, check if
you can report your hardware there.
This works well if you want to upgrade the linux-libre kernel on
debian/ubuntu derived distributions:
http://jxself.org/linux-libre/
It's a repository which has the linux-libre kernel packaged for debian/ubuntu
and offers regular updates.
At a minimum stick to the GEFORCE 8/9 series if you are going to get a free
software friendly card. These cards work best with the nouveau driver. This
is the free software driver. Of these the best supported is the 9500GT. It's
what we sell: http://libre.thinkpenguin.com (25% of the profits
:) The key to success is cooperation amongst supporters of free software.
Alone things don't move forward. Together we are something to be reckoned
with!
Even though I didn't say it at the conference your work is greatly
appreciated too!
Every recommendation is also greatly appropriated.
Hi Jason
I am pretty mixed up but basically I am thinking about source included
ones that may or may not be FSF approved.

Hi Everyone
I have asked questions about software licenses on this list in the past.
It's really not fair as it's off topic and it's flame war bait.
Is there somewhere else where I could discuss a variety of licenses? I
tried the FSF list but everyone seemed to insist GPL was the only way to
Awesome.
Keep up the good work!
Trisquel is the only OS you'll ever need! :)
But to answer your question, in /etc/default/grub uncomment the GRUB_GFXMODE=
and run update-grub. You need super user privileges to do these things.
Thanks lambas that did the job. I am enjoying trisquel very much
Hi all
sorry a bit of a linux noob question
I installed trisquel (dual booted) without a problem, on rebooting the
system, all I am getting is the monitor saying "out of range" on a blank
screen, I presume that grub is set at the wrong resolution for my 19"
monitor.
How would I change th

Hello! I'm the guy in the picture at the FSF booth. The Trisquel case
stickers (along with the GNU and GNU/Linux case stickers) and the Penguin
keyboard stickers, were awesomely donated to us by ThinkPenguin! (just want
to give credit where credit is due).
And also I was dd'ing trisquel 5.5
Replicant unfortunately doesn't ensure full freedom since the modem has too
much power on most phones (it can access the main CPU, the microphone and the
GPS and can be flashed by the mobile operators).
If you're talking about removing the Google services such as Market, YouTube,
Chrome, Maps, GMail and other proprietary bits by Google, you can actually
choose not to install them with CyanogenMod.
I have a Galaxy Nexus running CyanogenMod 10 (until Replicant gets released
for it) and I did
And if you do like tinkering, you could try a newer kernel.

Thanks moilami for a great answer
It will be a while till I can upgrade my machines (as due to sods law I have
just upgraded my 2 main machines (both amd chip / nvidia graphics))
does anyone know of a list of trisquel compatible hardware? (particularly
graphics cards)

If I were you I would just buy hardware what works with Free Software. I have
done it myself and it is a blast. No messing with stuff because things just
work out of the box.
Novadays is good times because Intel graphics are very well supported by Free
Software.

Whoops, what I perhaps should have said is that you have the option to
disable these google services.
AFAIK, some of the

Replicant looks interesting.
Can't wait.
It's hilarious but apparently there is no way to do this. I'd say go with
cat /sys/class/dmi/id/{sys_vendor,product_name}
which is equal to the original command AFAIK sans sudo. And then throw in a
disclaimer it might be bogus.
Firefox OS should be as free as cyanogenmod (basically Android without the
Google malware). A step in the right direction, and something much more
acceptable than any iOS jail based device.
It will still rely on non-free firmware, though.
The 'Trisquel equivalent' for a phone OS would be Rep
