There are a number of problems with Truecrypt (with a little history that

In other words, the TrueCrypt License is non-free only because clause III.d
limits charging for distribution. In alternative (i) you can't charge for the

The Debian Free Software Guidelines are different from, and stricter than,
the Free Software Definition. TrueCrypt is definitely inadmissible in Debian
due to its restrictions on the TrueCrypt name, but I'm inclined to think it's
a free software license.

This was also discussed in the Debian project:

In a nutshell, not, not free.

If you have any references I'd be glad to correct the wikipedia entry -
unless you get to it first :)

Not true. You are permitted to charge "a reasonable reproduction fee", this
clause only applies to the source code (charging for the binaries is not
discussed in the license), and also note III.3: "You are not obligated to
comply with Subsection III.1.d if Your Product is not distributed (i.e

These exerpts chosen by a Gentoo user (in 2011) are pretty scary too.
Although it does not seem to be based on the last version of the license (the
numbering of the clauses differ), they still seem to be present.
It does not seem the FSF has reviewed this license.
What about trying tcplay (d
The license is definitely not compatible with the GPL but also not a free
software license either:
III.1.d doesn't allow to charge for the software. Per the FSD, "Free

commercial use, commercial development, and
Aargh. Fedora forbids TrueCrypt because an old version of the TrueCrypt
License allowed them to sue you even if you complied with the License, due to
a mistake in wording. (Almost as bad as the mistake I just made...)
I like the software TrueCrypt and want to install it, but I have two big and
important questions:

Oh, that one... I'm very familiar with that, because that's what Fedora uses
(or at least used to use) by default.
"gnome-packagekit" is actually the package you want to install to use it (and
it's called "Add/Remove Software" in the menus; you need to unhide it), and
to be brutally honest,
Yes, it's packagekit and it's not specific for any distribution.
I can't disagree with you there.
There are a lot of little improvements that would make GNU/Linux easier to
use. Hopefully in time we can work out more of them.
I setup my Synaptics touchpad left top and bottom corners to close and undo

I don't know if Synaptic is shown in the menus by default, but if it isn't,
it's in Settings.

Debian is working towards that goal. Developers interested in helping or
