So after I wrote that last post, I went in Nautilus to go look at the

first I did steps 1 through 4, then realized I had forgotten to do the Brok
I don't see the point (why not just include the source code with the binary
and charge for them together?), but I don't see a problem with it either.
Would it be acceptable for a developer to release a program's source code
(distributed separately from the binaries) for a reasonable and affordable
fee, while at the same time providing it for free if asked as described in
the last section of http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/selling ?
"Cisco offering a FLOSS H.264 codec"
We already had a FLOSS H.264 implementation in the form of x264. Cisco's
announcement hasn't changed that to reduced any of the patent problems that
it faces.
As people have figured out:

I think much of this software is equal in many ways but it is all pretty much
lacking the ability to work around NAT. They only way to make this work is to
do port forwarding on the router.
This is the big problem really and that's why companies that make software

Does anyone know where Daala is compared to H264?
So, use the free version of the codec, violating the patents, or use the
proprietary binary. I thought the free software community alreads got the
h.264 codec figured out.
Yeah, I guess I could do that, when I get a chance I will do it.
Reading the comments at

seems to clarify what is actually going on:
"We will select licensing terms that allow for this code to be used in
commercial products as well as open source projects. In order for Cisco

The Dell Latitude ST actually runs Trisquel GNU/Linux pretty well. The only

No, patents are a lot worse than copyright in everything but duration. You
don't need to know about the patent to get in trouble (though you are in more
trouble if you do), no commercial distribution or even distribution at all is
necessary for you to get in trouble, and even a mere consumer/
I do not know where you live but, in many countries, the so called

yet, those counties still claim they are democracies).

I'm not a patent expert, but would it matter for objects made at home for

As far as I know, patents are a monopoly that comes into play only upon
distribution to others. Is making something yourself for your own use
something likely to violate anyone's fictitious "rights"?

Unlike other tablets this one is future prof. It's upgradable. Pop out

GPG and GPG2 are treated as separate packages and maintained separately,
so updating GPG wouldn't give you GPG2.
Andrew.
I just had another insight into what happened. I'll also write about it this
evening. I still didn't have success, but it might mean something.
What if you run Chromium without being signed into a google account?
I'm pretty sure that GPG gets updated with Trisquel's update manager.
Please ignore this thread. I started it by mistake.
I'll get back to you this evening. I'll record my steps to install the
libraries from a clean installation (on a Trisquel startup disk), so you can
see if they work for you.

Soon, 3D printing may be similar to copying files, because the public will then
be able to print out physical objects.
Suddenly, patents (on physical objects) won't be an industrial regulation, they
will then be nearly as restictive as copyright became when computers were
