This thread has some interesting points but I found discussion unproductive
at times, but here are a few points I'd like to make.
I was interested to hear about microcode, I've heard it mentioned before in a
similar debate about graphics cards, so I will be researching this topic
further.
If there is any change, it's only in Debian and Ubuntu packaging
removing nonfree parts. We should check the licenses and sources of
remaining files, maybe it's already free in parent distros, or needs
small changes.
This will leave two issues that other browsers had: recommendation of

Can you install custom firmware on it? My DDG skills are too low, or
there is no custom firmware for this device nor project working on one.
Most ebook readers run Linux and vendor-specific nonfree software, many
vendors release the minimum amount of code that the GPL requires them to

Greetings ladies and gentlemen.
I use oggconvert to transform mp3 to ogg.
The problem is that i can only do this with 1 file at time and I would want
to select multiple files and let the program do the job instead of waiting
for the program to finish and then selecte the next file.
Please
Oh, I forgot to mention that I want to convert sound files not video.
Why don't you use the star * instead of the whole filename?
Just copy the files you want to convert into a folder and then write *.mp3 as
inputfile.
Not quite sure but this should do the job.
What he said. Also, I believe most software in GNU/Linux will give you the
commands you can use if you type for example oggconvert --help
Maybe the way quantumgravity suggested will work, maybe you have to use a
different syntax. Try the help command to see what you can use the program
for.
I've already tried that and it doesn't work.
I'm looking for a way to do it from command line but I have to teach another
person how to do it and he/she is not familiar with those kind of
enviroments.
the oggconvert --help does not show anything?
Try dir2ogg. It converts many formats to ogg.
$ man dir2ogg
just like to point out, that converting from one lossy format to another
lossy is a bad idea. these new OGGs aren't going to be as good, sound wise,
as the MP3s you are replacing. for confirmation, see vorbis FAQ topic at
http://www.vorbis.com/faq/#transcode

Thank you jbar, It works like a Dream.
I need to program a script to make easier for my friends to use the tool.
GNUser, Oggconvert does not have a command line tool so I could not do those
things.
Well, Thank you all.
+1 :)
I've used Tor browser to view this forum for several months without issues
(doing it right now!). I'm currently using Tor v0.2.4.18-rc (not the primary
browser bundle - though not why that should make a difference). I don't have
issues when using Iceweasel in TAILS either. The only issues I
Using proprietary software violates MY code of ethics, which is why I use
free software. That fact that it works very well, is free of malware, etc. is
really beside the point.
Soundconverter or soundkonverter ?!
XFE file manager is a very good replacement for Trisquel-mini users.
It's very light but very powerful. It's in Trisquel repo
but if you want the latest version you may check their website.

After installation you can remove Pcmanfm.
Michal,
I'd love to help but not sure I have enough time to dedicate to this. If I
knew more about what was involved I could better assess my ability to help.
Ok, I will have this in mind; I will keep files in mp3 but I will transform
the Wav ones to ogg.
Thank you.
Perfect, that is exactly what I needed, thank you very much.
They were very scared when I told them that I should teach them how to use
the command line.
Also, thanks to all of you.
Without Freedom 1 we can even assertain whether this patch is even an actual
security fix.
We can test so-called security fix. If the exploit doesn't work after
installation of it, then it is really security fix. Of course, it can
contain new backdoors and new security vulnerability.
Using proprietary software violates MY code of ethics
By the way, are you a believer or an atheist?

What exploit? What security vulnerability?
Sorry?
The existence of god/gods doesn't pass the laugh test. Religion is an
activity for the weak-minded and the single biggest obstacle to human
progress.
Are your ethics based on pure logical reasoning?
No. They are based on experience, observations of others, my own sense of
logic and (at least to some extent) the law. Of course, laws and the
experiences of others may be based in part on input from religion, but I have
had not direct input from religion as I was (thankfully) shielded from
And how can you explain your position about Free Software Movement?
The four freedoms are entirely consistent with my code of ethics. Pretty
straightforward.
roboq6, are you making jokes here ;)
Operating systems are among the most complicated things in the world of
programming. They are not some high-level application, but include relatively
high-level applications as well as very low-level applications as a kernel
and various drivers. The
Installed Trisquel 5.5 side by side with Windows XP and it works perfectly.
However, Windows will not boot now. I can access all of my windows

I've been looking to learn a new language in 2014 and Scala has been one I
have come across. It runs on the JVM and is actually one of the highest
performing languages on the web. It powers LinkedIn and Twitter.
Guess what... you can use it on a complete free software stack:

If having a 17 screen is not an important feature for you, look at the eeepc

perfect. Plasma-netbook helps with the small screen a lot, no clattering with
bars, panels and such. The keyboard perfectly utilizes the

I've owned one 1005PE for a couple of years, I purchased a second one,
used obviously, just this week.

Everything is very good with this laptop... It has one little dowside, which

@cyberhawk have you tried, or are you using, in /etc/default/grub?

While I appreciate Rubén and his few friends making the git commits, I wish
he would allow more people write access to the git. In this way bugs and
ports such as this would be completed much faster. Some of the bugs are very
easy to fix.
I didn't try it, since I thought it just makes the brightness Fn-keys work
properly (highest setting corresponds to highest brightness). I'll try that
out right now.
Quoting from a MajorGeeks post with the same error:
Run Chkdsk /f /r to detect and resolve any file corruption. You must restart
your PC before the disk scan begins . If you cannot start the system due to
the error, use the Recovery Console and run Chkdsk /r

I use google because of relevant results.
Not an excuse, use StartPage.com instead. :D
Hmm sad to see all the flamewar above, but back on topic.
1) I find it very strange that there has been no public announcement of which
exploit or vulnerability the proposed patch fixes. Where's the changelog??
The very vague information I found on Intel's website doesn't leave me
wanting to
did you run update-grub after making the change, prior to rebooting?
I really don't know what you're talking about. I never said anything about an
exotic patch to an invisible problem.
Maybe you posted your reply somehow wrong.
Where's the changelog??
My understanding is that Intel doesn't provide detailed information like
this. What you see is what they share.
Not an excuse, use StartPage.com instead. :D
I don't see any sense to use StartPage. I don't care about NSA and so on. I
like DuckDuckGo because of absence of filter bubble. Sometimes it helps me.
But I have DuckDuckFallback extension. The extension added Search in Google

I have more important question. Where is exploit?
Nifty site to find alternatives -

And as icarolongo mentioned those are your best bet; LibreOffice Writer or
Drawing, and Scribus.
I figured it out. There should be a file (more accurately, a link to a file)
/etc/fonts/conf.d/01-trisquel.conf. You will need to edit this file to
include the names of your chosen fonts as highest priority (above the
existing family entries).
Wikipedia says Microsoft Publisher is desktop publishing like Scribus.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_Publisher
LibreOffice 4.0 and Scribus 1.5.0 have support for Microsoft Publisher files.
The best is Blender, Kdenlive and OpenShot.
This question came to my mind while I was discussing my Free Clarendon
campaign with someone else. When I claimed that fonts are software, because
they are a program designed to draw the outlines, he countered with a
powerful point.
If a font is a program created to draw outlines, and
Ups sorry... I don't know the software you were trying to use, I was merely
giving you a suggestion (I thought it was a command line app since you said
you were doing it that way).
Well, I am happy you at least got your solution :)
What are you talking about?
So anything in a computer thats not executable is not software?
Put it this way.
How do you even know that the font exists?
without linux and without an operating system you cant draw like your
saying, the font file right?
A font file is not a file that renders text.,
Nope i dont code in scala.
But i do code in c++ which is the programming language that makes sence for
me.
Where is exploit?
Who knows? As far as I know, Intel keeps the details secret.
