I set my wallpaper again, and it seems to be back to normal. Thanks. :)
I worried it might be a failing or overloaded component, but I don't notice
any signs either physically or from within System Monitor.
Looks good now. :)
Is it possible to build and run .NET applications using only free
software? It doesn't sound like it:

Move along, nothing to see here...
Andrew.
If anything that is drawn there stays there until overwritten.
Try setting a wallpaper.
I think the gnome way of doing it is launching system settings and clicking
on appearance.
Cannot say for sure whether or not a program needs to actively tend to the

I agree with mindfulpessimist's minimalist approach. I like having full
control over what I put on my system, and the decreased attack surface it
offers me to have only the few programs I need, but am not quite sure I want
to use Parabola. I will try out the net install, probably on the next
I wonder if it will suffer from the same problems as the Raspberry Pi.
Trisquel doesn't use Ubuntu's repositories.
I'm surprised at the comments that are adding to the forum.
Worrying about who wrote the post rather than comment on a change from Ubuntu
to Debian.
Recalling that Ubuntu has a company involved. It is not good to see using
repositories owners.
This looks cool, I think I'll try to build one myself and see how it works.
Seems like a cool weekend project.
I'd never heard of the Improv, thanks for enlightening me!
I currently own a few Raspberry Pi's myself and I really love the community
surrounding them, but I would definitely prefer a freedom friendly
alternative.
Just wanted to add to this post.
If you buy a "half size" PCI card, adapters are available on eBay for ~$3-4
and they will allow you to fit your half-size card in a full size slot.
Here's a link to one I've been using (works great!):

I've been using a Thinkpad X61 for about 2 years now. I recently switched to
Trisquel from Parabola and everything works great for me. I did have to flash
a custom BIOS in order to get a free software supported wifi card to work,
but it was well worth it (And only cost about $6).

I think we need quite a bit larger sample before we can draw any
statistically meaningful conclusions.
Just bookmarked it, I'll definitely be using this.
Thanks!
The only thing that causes some free or open source software not to work is
the lack of funding, which is usually caused by the fact they can't easily
sell it, as one user buys it and then uploads it to his own website, then
anyone can get it without paying.
be careful with the cans of compressed air you can buy. Some of them contain
solvents as propellants which may damage the plastic parts of your computer.
Ah, so it was a ThinkPinguin Quality control issue.

Hi all,
I just started using Trisquel coming from another distro and on my Acer
Aspire One both Trisquel Mini and standard 700MB Trisquel 6.0.1 install
without a problem, full graphical display etc but when Trisquel boots after
installation all I get is a tty1 text login. I cannot startx,
In simple English that means trying a new profile. Close all browser windows
and then run abrowser -P.
And should that work, then you know it's something you did to the browser,
most probably an extension. Disable half of your extensions and see which
half contains the bad apple. Rinse and
I believe updating the Linux-libre kernel might help. Probably the easiest
way to do so is via http://jxself.org/linux-libre/
Hello. Unless somebody comes with a better answer, I guess you could try
using the dconf-editor command from the dconf-tools packages. Dunno if that's
installed by default.

I guess one diagnostic you could do is check your memory. I believe the

I run the latest Trisquel on a Gluglug X60. And the GUI sometimes froze. The
only thing I could link was the more intense activity. I have gone up from
the 3.2.x kernel to 3.10.x libre. The problem is still there.
Mr. Rowe offered me assistance and I have made a stress test. For over an

Had someone built Sigil? Ubuntu is not on the list provided by the author. Or
anything that can edit the epub metadata as long as it is free.
I have quite a few PDFs that are a mess. Organizing them takes time when the
metadata is not right, because most indexers to look there for hints. I have
searched through Synaptic and even installed most apps that pretend to work
with PDFs. So far most do the exact same thing: split into page
