Because I am using GNOME Shell, the following may not work:
In the Top bar section of the Tweak tool (in System settings), you can
choose whether the date is displayed;
In Date time (in System settings), a radio button allows to choose
between 24 hours or AM/PM;
In the second tab of
Can you access a terminal by typing Ctrl+Alt+F1? If so, the problem is indeed
related to the X server. You can log in the terminal and take a look at the
Xorg's logs and spot the problem:
$ less /var/log/Xorg.0.log
If a X has a configuration file, you can remove it:
$ sudo rm
Is there the same offer if I choose Trisquel 6.0 ?
What if I buy several laptops ? fixed 50$ or 50$ a laptop ?
Still possible to come to London and pay cash ?
Yes, I can go to the terminal an login.
If I take a look on Xorg.0.log, I don't understand one word. Can you help me,
how I have to read this or say me what you see in the file? I make a
attachment of it.
I don't have a diretcory /etc/X11/xorg/
But I tryed with removing /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Would running xrandr with the help of
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/xrandr or
http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=articleitem=927num=2 help?
Maybe you accidentally hit the key to switch monitor output to external
monitor?
Yes...
the xrandr was helpfull!
I opened blind a Terminal (with Ctrl+Alt+T) and tipped xrandr --auto
Then I saved the Monitor Settings with the GUI, because: Changes you make
using xrandr will only last through the current session
Thats all
Thanks to all for help!!
Top bar: Both boxes are checked, and have no effect.
Date time: The radio button only effects that window, not the panel.
Language support: There's only one option: English. And unless there's some
language that would set the number/date/currency format to sensible
defaults instead of tying
It is also missing in gnome-shell
The date you are seeing on the panel is from the indicator plugin

doing
$ compiz --replace
replaces the metacity window manager but might not stop the compton
compositor that might be causing that.
Thank Sachin :)
Do you have any idea of what could be done to fix it?
there's /usr/share/gnome-session/sessions/gnome-flashback.session
copy it, rename the new file to gnome-compiz.session, edit this file,
replace metacity with compiz.
also copy and rename the /usr/share/xsessions/trisquel-desktop.session
edit it and replace Exec=gnome-session
I use français (France) in the second tab of Language support and the
time is 24 hours on my system. I do not know if it is really this setting
that has an influence though.
What about the add-ons? Like wifi? I'm pretty sure the codes not been
released, but I'd love someone to tell me otherwise.
Spot on.
Thanks for the correction/info. Interesting interpretation of events/read.
You might be right. That's not what I recall being told by one of the
developers and not having read the policies personally... could be wrong
From a quick skim and what I recall it seems like there is/was some
Just a repost: if you actually wanted Debian 6 try GnewSense.
I think the newest version of Debian is somewhat equal with Ubuntu precise
(at least looking at the GNOME version)
And you'd have to remove Compton as well (if it's there - I don't know since
my installations all originated from debootstrap), maybe try removing
compton?
you are right.
and the lock screen has gone awesome.
You can take it from Debian's repos http://mozilla.debian.net/ (The one for
Squeeze (oldstable), Icedove version ESR works prefectly - not sure about the
one for Wheezy.
I just wanted to point out that compiz 3d windows is not working on Trsiquel
7 :(
There is a bug on the upstream https://bugs.launchpad.net/compiz/+bug/1024208
Does it makes a different if we report as users that we are having the
problem too? I already did.
Hi,
I left Trisquel. I had been constantly using Trisquel since version 5.0 as my
primary operating system but now I feel that it is not my type. My conclusion
was that users have no power and everything is done in background. Linux and
GNU have thought me that we should *develop together*
Debian? so what's the diference? Debian isn't edorsed by FSF yes. But i find
more easy to use Triquel.
When I was looking for the eVY1 Shield[1], I noticed it has an EULA. The
shield is based on proprietery technologies where Yamaha holds software
patents. But there are other addons that one can use in freedom. One example
is the FSF endorsed RAMBo[2] circuit board. An you can design your own
The Compiz in T7 is a binary copy of the Ubuntu package and isn't on
the T7 install DVD, so upstream is in fact where you should report the
bug. Further AIUI adding your name to a bug on Launchpad improves its
chances of getting attention from Ubuntu - so it's worth doing.

FFMPEG was in the repos when I was using Trisquel 6, but I can't find it in
the Belenos repository. What happened to it?
I have some video conversion bash scripts that depend on FFMPEG, so I'd
rather not have to use another video convertor.
You have to click it on nautilus side bar so that it gets mounted and the
content is shown.
Upgrading from 6.01 to 7.0 resulted in having the folder: fontconfig within
my home folder on two different machines. The contents (***.cache-3 files)
haven't changed since the day of installation. What is the purpose of the
folder? Is it safe to delete?
Thanks!
Looks like it's blobby Chris

As you will know only too well yourself, hardware manufacturers are swines
for keeping stuff to themselves - so any and all addons to an Arduino have to
be treated as strictly caveat emptor (buyer
Install libav-tools, use avconv instead of ffmpeg the program. Some
time ago ffmpeg was forked into libav and ffmpeg, some distros choose
one, another or both, Debian-based distros have libav.

I should have used the words automount or auto open in the title so that
it was easier to find. Oh well, hope it helps some one out there.
It occurs to me you might be interested in alternative hardware platforms.
In which case I suggest you start with the FSF Single Board computers

The package libav-tools is already installed on my system. How do I invoke
it from the command line? (Entering the command libav doesn't work.)
Thank you for at least telling us. If you read the relevant part of
wikipedia [1] you'll see this is intended to be a friendly statement.

If you are using Trisquel mini or LXpanel then simply right click on the
clock then click digital clock settings.

Clock Format: %R
Tooltip Format: %d%b%Y(%a)
This will give you a 24 hour time format with the date listed
It's a coupon for $50 *discount* on a computer loaded with Trisquel 7, not
the whole computer for $50.
Use dpkg-query -L libav-tools if you are unsure what files a package
provides. avconv is the program that does what ffmpeg did; avprobe and
avplay replace other programs.

Oh, thanks - I've just skimmed it and it seems you are right. My

Thanks to all who helped.
I ended up just reinstalling, and updating. No problems now.

I just upgraded and Trisquel 7 looks lovely. It may be slightly slower(?) on
my old, Inspiron 1520, than 6.0, but just a little. We shall see how it
performs in the days to come.
Many thanks for all the hard work.

So I just fount out that compiz's burning windows animation is gone :'(
Installing compiz-plugins-extra doesn't work anymore.
I'm so sad. I wonder if contributing to the project may help, I heard that it
is being abandon for quite some time, I just didn't know.
Does anybody could tell me
Also if someone has an article of why and when did this started I loved to
read it. Thank you.
12.04 isn't that old... in my mind. However I don't really recall exactly
what version we were at when the newer firmware was needed.
Hi everyone:
I just wanted to share how awesome is gimp's single-window mode on trsiquel
7. The first thing that caught my attention on the slide show while trisquel
was being installed was a screen shot of it.
It wasn't so important to me as I got use to the old interface but I'm sure
yeaa dude - gimp is da bomb!!
:)
other magnificent applications are (my favs) - xbmc, popcorn-time, jitsi,
goldendict, minitube..
and many many others.
viva free software!!
I deleted that folder just after the upgrade (2.5 weeks ago). No problem.
Hello, I've just installed Trisquel on a late 2007 MacBook with relative ease
except that my touchpad isn't functioning fully. I've tried installing
drivers/modules from the synaptic package manager but I'm not entirely sure
how it works or if there is even a better driver for my touchpad?
I found avconv, thanks!
I've looked in my 6.0 and the radeon is actually blacklisted ( I am not sure
what it means, does it mean that the driver is disabled ?)
Below is the result of the command you gave me :
/etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-framebuffer.conf:blacklist radeonfb
/etc/modprobe.d/disable-radeon.conf:blacklist
Actually, I just ran the command on 7.0 (Live CD) and below are the results :
/etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-framebuffer.conf:blacklist radeonfb
/etc/modprobe.d/disable-radeon.conf:blacklist radeon
/etc/modprobe.d/fbdev-blacklist.conf:blacklist radeonfb
It looks like the first line was not in the
Thank you! The Clock applet seems to be what I remember from Trisquel 6. By
any chance, is there a way to get rid of the other clock without losing all
of Indicator Applet?
Hi there!
Just try plugging in the mouse and see what happens. Regarding the touchpad,
have you checked out the configuration options in system settings?
There is also a user unfriendly but much more encompassing way to fiddle with
the various parameters. This involves opening 2 terminal
It doesn't seem like this is a mistake. According to the developer commits,
Rubén took it out in August. I'd just like to know if it will mess anything
up down the road to put it back.
Where can you see the developer commits? Also, does he say why he took it
out?
