Ah, yes. My memory beseeches me. You will need the gnome-session package as
well-- and if you want the 'full' GNOME experience, you can also install the
gdm package and use that over lightdm. (GDM is GNOME's desktop manager-- it
handles logging in to your PC, etc.)
I took a look at Parabola and that's not a direction I want to go. With
Trisquel's Ubuntu base it gives me an OS that I'm familiar with and stays on
the higher end of the reliability scale.
I'm guessing that 3.14+ may be compatible with a future Trisquel release.
3.12 is cool for me as I'm
To use GNOME 3.12 on Trisquel, you'll need to add the
ppa:gnome3-team/gnome3-staging PPA (sudo add-apt-repository
ppa:gnome3-team/gnome3-staging), update your apt-cache (sudo apt-get update)
and then, finally, install GNOME 3. (sudo apt-get install gnome-shell)
You can't run 3.14 or 3.16 on T
Thanks again! I did edit my last post as you were answering I think. Let me
expound a little...
I see in Synaptic that the gnome-shell is 3.10 and I would like to grab 3.14
or 3.16 which I think is a s easy as adding the PPA's but would like to
verify that before I go down a road of screw
Yes, you will be able to use or extensions. You'll need to install the
gnome-tweak-tool package to do so. (sudo apt-get install gnome-tweak-tool)
And sorry, I'm not sure about your second question. I haven't used the
Trisquel gnome-classic shell in quite a while.
Thanks JadedCtrl!
Maybe another question or two related to the first...
I like the regular Gnome Shell as I utilize a fair amount of the extensions
from the extensions.gnome.org site. If I install the gnome-shell package
will I be able to add extensions as I would in say Ubuntu Gnome 14.04
Yea, just install the gnome-shell package. (sudo apt-get install gnome-shell)
Welcome to the community, ftim! ^_^
Hi Folks,
I'm new to Trisquel but have been using Linux for about 5 years with
Ubuntu/Ubuntu-based distros the most. I have read quite a bit about the FSF
and understand the idea behind Trisquel and am finding it more and more cool!
I do have a couple questions...
I downloaded the newes
Great - Thanks, onpon4! I'd like to see more people doing what you're doing
and developing free games commercially like this. Free from the start. Not
free code with non-free graphics/sounds. Or that start proprietary and are
made free later on when the code is thrown over the wall (and no lo
There is a possibility of an ARM-based solution. It's tricky to do and won't
exactly be competitive with modern x86 offerings. However the designs are
being worked on that may eventually lead to something better. Right now your
going to be missing 3D accelerated graphics with any ARM based so
I love it!
I'll actually probably publish the repo at a much lower level than the goal.
Almost certainly will do so if it reaches $25,000, for instance. But
regardless, sure, anyone who gets a copy of the game can have a copy of the
git repo as well, in the event that I don't publish it.
To quote the IndieGoGo:
"If the goal is not reached, don't worry; the game will still be finished, it
will still be completely libre software under the GNU GPL, and you will still
get your perks. I just won't necessarily publish ReTux to everyone at no cost
as described in the previous parag
If you don't reach the $50k goal, the history will stay private and code will
be thrown over the wall to them - why not give it to them regardless?
> Will you push the cleaned up art back to SuperTux?
Naturally. :)
> Why isn't the game developed in public?
It's not been developed in public specifically so I could give this
crowdfunding idea a try, actually. For the past few months I've been using
Git to make a history, though, so if th
It's just plain old XFCE4!
I've been very impressed how beautiful XFCE looks recently without having to
do a whole lot of tweaking.
Will you push the cleaned up art back to SuperTux? Why isn't the game
developed in public?
What panel is that? Lxpanel?
noice!
good luck with teh project!
To be clear, $50,000 (= 2500 $20 contributors) is the point where I would do
things like quit my day job and suspend other active projects if necessary so
that I would be able to work on the game full-time. Even $10,000 would be
something I'd consider a success, but that wouldn't be enough fo
Thank you! :)
'Tis fantastical, onpon.
Just contributed to the Crowdfund~
(As often said in comment sections, "first!")
I hope reTux reaches the goal, and I look forward to it's release.
I wouldn't call it an "engine remake". It's an entirely new game. Similar in
some respects to SuperTux et al, but with various differences. For example:
- The completed game should be a lot shorter than SuperTux's ambitious goal,
and have a lot less features. This means the game will be finis
I don't exactly get it - would I be paying for an expensive engine remake
developed behind closed doors?
$50,000? AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAH
Huh, I hate when I make mistakes like that. Oh, well. Something to the effect
of "contribute if you wish" was what I was going to put there.

Yeah, you have to use non-libre JavaScript to contribute to it. :( I tried to
find a crowdfunding service without that problem, but CrowdSupply is the only
possible one and it doesn't seem suitable for this kind of thing.
Also, on that note, it's possible to see the c
that's even better.
I really want to try it.
Btw, speaking of useability:
my printer used to not work properly either on windows or mac. On my Trisquel
Netinstall, I just plugged it in with not much hope, and not only it printed,
but it printed without the previous issues!
So that was cool
yes, i've think i said that repeatedly in this thread as well.
As I keep saying, my personal experience is, my windows box hasn't been
destroyed since windows xp, where my linux boxses keep getting destroyed.
Last year after being banned from freenode, and this year after being banned
security is not an "advantage" its ESSENTIAL!
Yes, they are working on it.
Hi Legimet,
I followed your commands.
works now!!
I shall keep this till an official fix is made available to the public.
Try this as a temporary solution:
$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:legimet/abrowser-kde
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install abrowser
Got tired of my old desktop so I did a little tweaking during my free time
this weekend. The only thing I don't really like are the icons I'm using on
the panel. Does anyone know of any minimal icon packs that might look a
little more polished?
Also I've been considering switching to a tili

"Will I need a huge casing?"
Well, it's 12" x 13" and you need an SSI EEB 3.61 case so just imagine.

I just wanted to add that the apparent limited flexibility ("apparent"
because of the extensions and because a lot can be configured through dconf)
does not mean using GNOME Shell is inefficient. See

I see. Gnome3 classic is really the most suited because activities can still
be accessed from the classic menu (1 more click, but it becomes a
secondary/last resort tool, so it's fine). Sure there is also Mate/Cinammon,
supposed to be lightweight/oldschool/more flexible, but if they're not as

Hi leni2010,
Abrowser 39.0.3 closes unexpectedly for 32 bit systems. A few forum members
too have raised their concerns. Can you communicate this to Ruben or aklis?
Thank you in advance.
@Magic Banana,
I agree with you.
Here's my thoughts on the topic:-
GNU IceCat is built keeping user freedom and privacy as the top-notch
priority; SPY Block, HTTPS Everywhere!, Tor Proxy and LibreJS are a few tools
to defend the user from known vulnerabilities. (And of course, they are free
