If it's to your liking and the price is rihgt, why don't you get it, install

Hi, everyone!!!
I'm pretty new in the free software world.Right now I'm using (testing)
Trisquel in a Virtual Machine and I love the system. I'm really happy about
it. So now I'm considering to buy a new laptop and I realize, it is not so
easy. The most demanding software that I will use

gnome-fallback is one of the things I like about trisquel. extremely

Quite naturally, Mate is better than Gnome 2, being maintained and having new
functionality added. It would be inane to suggest it never evolves or stays

My understanding is that the Trisquel Helpers are responsible for pulling
packages from the appropriate area of Ubuntu and that once integrated into
Trisquel they are just in the one repository.
Yes you are right. For Trisquel 7 it won´t be a good idea. Now yes. And
considering than Trisquel 8 (as the previous versions of Trisquel) it won´t

I don't see the point in such an effort. With the exception of blobs in
Linux, Ubuntu already separates proprietary software into designated
repositories, so it's possible to run Ubuntu without proprietary software
just by replacing Linux with Linux-libre, if that's what you want. The main
I use evolution with IMAP and starttls with all of my services. From what you

No progress regarding Evolution though. Evolution still refuses to connect to
the IMAP server - username/password is never in play.
I wonder if upgrading Evolution to a later version than in the Trisquel

I'd recommend ownCloud.
IMO it's the most polished and professional fully Free Software cloud storage

It's supported by pretty much any device (GNU|Linux, OSX, Windows,

You can host your own server or use someone else's server (often for a small

How is MATE superior to GNOME 2? Well for one thing it supports GTK+ 3 now.
They have been working on a lot of other things too.
I'm using Spideroak sync and backup. They are often endorsed as privacy and
security friendly and they might be. But they still have this little black
hole of closed software. I just heard of Syncany for the first time.
Anyone who knows about it?
Do you have other suggestions?
Ubtu = Ubuntu
Trisquelize = Transform Ubuntu into Trisquel. Now, it would be, to take the

There is a script to older versions that transform Ubuntu to Trisquel.

Be specific. What exactly do you want to do when you say "trisquelize"? What
is Ubtu?
Ok, so let's trisquelize Ubtu, only. But do it right now. It has to be
configured since when the user installs Ubtu.
Then, developers could make Trisquel libre in a time.
It is important to make it easy for the user to choose Trisquel, Software
Libre.
Thanks.
You're welcome.

I agree. If the distro cared about becoming free software, you would not need
such a script--they would do it themselves. If they do not care enough, then
they will have respositories containing non-free software. This would make
them ineligible to become an FSF sanctioned officially free

No. There is not such a thing on Trisquel 7. Everything is in one component,

They should only enable main by default after every clean install.
It's pretty well explained here.

My point is that Canonical don't make this clear. Some person who decides to

assume that there would be the main repository, supported for the 5 years as

Yes, it is news. "Long term support" implies support for all the packages in
