FAT32 file size limit is approximately 4 gigs. It can't possibly be that you
installed GNU/Linux in a FAT partition.
How big are your "long" ISOs?
GNU is an operating system, that usually comes with Linux (Linus Torvalds
kernel for an operating system). GNU can use other kernels, like other
operating system. When you say "Linux", you trying to say "operating system",
but "Linux" is a kernel only, component of an operating system.
I changed my password to one of the type you suggeted =)
I was trying to be quiet until I'd looked into this more but since you are

IBM has CDE documentation for AIX.
This bit is interesting:
Stopping the Common Desktop Environment manually
When you manually stop the Login Manager, all X Servers and desktop sessions
that the Login Manager started are stopped.
Open a terminal emulator window, and log in as root.
If you have been convinced by rms' speech, you should certainly have written
"GNU/Linux" whenever you wrote "Linux" above:

Check out your disk's SMART data and self-test it. In Trisquel, you can use
the "Disks" utility in the "System Settings".
Well, that's an unfortunately quiet response I've had. I do hope some people
participate!
You can transcode with VLC. But it is easier to use a specialized program.
Try Transmageddon, which is in Trisquel's repository.
Gnome ALSA Mixer is a GUI for Alsa sound utils. It's old-school enough to fit
in seamelessly with CDE. I installed it from a deb package provided by Ubuntu
since it was not available in Debian Jessie.
Try package alsa-tools-gui. Debian has it, Ubuntu has it, Trisquel probably
has it.
sudo apt-get install alsa-tools-gui
http://packages.ubuntu.com/trusty/alsa-tools-gui
https://packages.debian.org/jessie/alsa-tools-gui
Then type:
envy24control
It is in the repositories. If you open synaptic with:
sudo synaptic
and search for envy you will see the packages to install
Simple question: Have you updated your system?:
sudo apt-get update
and then upgrade:

Hello,
i got a strange problem with all checksums on Trisquel. I think it is a bug
in ubuntu / linux or so. So i know this is probably not the right place to
address this issue.
A little bit to me: After the Snowden documents i decided to use linux, and

My problem is not with the player. It's with the sound card. The sound card
takes a line in, and plays it to the speakers when I boot Windows, but when I
boot Trisquel it doesn't. The sound card will however, play from the media
player.
How to convert to ogg or to x264? I tried a file with ogg converter (default
comes with Trisquel) but it only recognizes audio. I installed the vlc with
the commands suggested above and can play the file but need to convert it to
a lower resolution. How should I get ogg converter to
I find that depending on the track certain media players play MKV files
without sound, VLC being the exception. I assume the other players use
similar codecs (e.g the GStreamer codecs). I find using Mplayer then looking
at its error messages helped to identify what extra packages were
Okay. Installed VLC media player. It will play an mp3 using the sound card in

I'm dual booting Trisquel on an old pc. It has an after market sound card in
it. When I run windows, the sound card can take a line-in signal and pass it
through to the 5.1 speaker system. This is kind of my main audio system at my
desk. If I'm working on my personal or work laptop, I just
Unity shares a lot in common with GNOME Shell, so try that.
I see then must be something with the desktop environment lxde
(trisquel-mini) and unity (ubuntu) that's why there a little change in the
behaviour
Thanks.
Yes. The 9 cell is the bigger.
Indeed. I did not think of that. The swap can be a file too (what solves as
well the potential issue).
The command in the post I linked uses /dev/random (not /dev/urandom). It is
random. Maybe more random than the dices (whose output is determined by the
law of mechanics).
Application Manager has a default set of apps and you most likely want to add
some more.
As root, go to /etc/dt/appconfig/appmanager/C
'C' is default English, if you use another, go to the respective language
folder.
Make directories for Internet, Games, Accessories, Video_and_Sound or
One swap is enough unless you hibernate one distro onto it and then use
another distro before thawing the first one.
Laptops oh danm, they are so annoying, bateries and charge cables...so
primitive.
I'm trying to read a Debian CD-ROM. The Dtfile file manager won't
automatically mount the CD. Well, I did that in the terminal and can now
access the CD in the file manager /media/cdrom/.
There are various ways to browse. I can use cat command to print the text of

One single swap partition is indeed enough: it is shared.
Try the following command in Ubuntu and see if Trisquel is then listed in
GRUB's menu (GNU GRUB is the bootloader):
$ sudo update-grub

Hi All,
Please let me know if these counts as 'promoting non-free software' as I am

Hi.
It is available in the repository, you can easily install it.
$ sudo apt install xserver-xorg-video-nouveau

Hi!
Hot laptop. Please include in the trisquel free driver:
xserver-xorg-video-nouveau. Is that possible? I think that a hot laptop
because i have Nvidia graphics card.
I can not install it yourself.
When plans to update Trisquel?
Site of free drivers. Suitable under the GNU philosophy?
Diamond shaped Sun logo from Web Archives.
It probably was not a bug. Enigmail can integrate with Thunderbird's password
manager (and it has not had a major update in years). I'm pretty certain it
can do this in Trisquel.
I put a screenshot of Solaris CDE in the wallpaper thread. It's kind of
