This is because Trisquel doesn't have systemd. systemctl is a systemd command. Try running it manually with "sudo start mbpfan" or enable with Upstart by "sudo cp mbpfan.upstart /etc/init/mbpfan.conf sudo start mbpfan"

Actually, don't. Trisquel is very old now and you will most probably have unsatisfied dependencies if you go the package through repository way. Download the standalone bundle and run the executable.
