If you install software in Trisquel with apt-get is going to be really hard
that you install proprietary software.
But if you use PPA's of Ubuntu this are not officialy supported by Trisquel
and you have to check to make sure your freedom is not at risk.

Yes - Not only fair, but likely.

Not necessarily, although that is one important thing. (I'm thinking of the

Software is considered free if it satisfies the four software freedoms, as
outlined by the FSF:

*The freedom to study how the program works, and change it so it d

I don't know much about the status as free/libre. Keep in mind that it's
the FreeDOS project that has to seek inclusion in the lists of
free/libre system distributions. You can influence this by telling the

Hello all,
I've been using Trisquel for a few months now based on learning about it on
the FSF site, and have been enjoying it very much. Also I am learning more
and more about free software and am proud to say I just ordered an external

Does anyone know if they still use the OpenBSD ports tree or do they have
their own audited for freedom? I've never used a BSD but my understanding is
that non-free software was optionally available through the OpenBSD ports
tree.
You hit the nail on the head. They should do what debian does by default and
give the user a choice.
I would say that Debian and FreeDOS are not on the list because optionally
free is not enough.
As for LibertyBSD, they should be on the list of non gnu distros at the
least...
I know, that FSF recommends fully free GNU+Linux distros. But what about
FreeDOS, it is also free software. And Debian GNU+Hurd? what about
LibertyBSD, all these are free software operating systems, allright, some are
more limited than others, but still free as in freedom.

Hello everyone!
I'm looking for a free as-in-freedom solution to stream a presentation

Haha, I like the name :)
6 cores was officially unsupported by Asus for my version of mobo.
Unfortunately, I didn't succeed in making it work.
And I'm tired of all this anyway.
So I'll stick to 4 cores since finally it's working well with SeaBIOS.
Yet to fix (but I'm done working on it):

I'd like to interject for a moment. What you refer to 'Ubuntu' is indeed
Debian + 5 minutes of custom work - all the blobbery.. :P

Excuse me, but you seem to me unexperienced on legal matters.

What is the point? It's just a rebranded Ubuntu.
IT WORKS!!!
Well, not with Libreboot:
* keyboard fails to work after reboot unless removing CMOS
* it couldn't launch a good disk install.
* it couldn't reach the LiveCD after the first flashing of the rom on the
chip
With Coreboot (thanks to #coreboot):

Hi to the funny lone downvoter. I like to upvote myself and others when I see

I can understand upvoting without an explanation, but not downvoting without
an explanation.

An external USB DVD drive is the solution if you don't have a laptop that
comes with one. Better still, get a Bluray drive.
I have had the same issue a number of times. For me the solution has always
been to re-do the process of creating a live usb-stick over and over again.
Finally it worked. Sometimes a functional live usb-stick can suddenly turn
useless. I have no idea why?
Just keep repeating that dd process
Thank you for your help. Unfortunately, my Laptop does not have a dvd drive.
I could buy an external dvd drive. Would that enable me to boot from a dvd?
It would be more convenient for me to boot Trisquel from a usb stick. Will
this be possible with future versions of the Trisquel 8 iso?
