Shouldn't Trisquel focus on timely releases for x86 (which most people use)
before supporting other architectures? The latest version of Trisquel is
based on a two and a half old release of Ubuntu (which means a lot of
software is outdated). The priority should be on releasing a new version
Put Trisquel on the iMac too. Maybe it's already there; you don't say. Once
it is, use VNC. Or SSH with X forwarding. Or X2Go. Or any of the other
options. In the land of GNU/Linux there's usually more than one way to do
something.
ah:/ solution number seems interesting, but I believe too advanced for me
right now

Tried the second USB HDD, but did the webmail transfer before running
software updater.
Got the umpteen-emails downloads as before. After the software updates,
things are calm
again.
Maybe someone reset the flags on my webmail ... at the ISP.

I would only add, that redshift can also be used in a "one shot manual mode"
with the following syntax:
redshift -O TEMP
where TEMP is colour temperature. For example, to set the colour temperature
to 3700K, you can type in the terminal:
redshift -O 3700

I have an old (2008) iMac and a newer (2012) MacBook Pro (with SSD).
The MacBook Pro is the preferable choice to use as it has SSD.
But I would really like to use the iMac as a display/monitor. Is this
possible?
The iMac has only a mini-DVI connection, whereas the MacBook has
I had a look in Synaptic, and it seems that I have "redshift-gtk" already
installed (I had installed "Redshift" from Add/Remove). However, I don't seem
to have a GUI interface for Redshift; I get the same error as the OP upon
launching Redshift from the "Accessories" menu where it's located.
That printer "requires a driver plug-in":

As far as I understand, that is proprietary software...
It's just listed as "Redshift" in Add/Remove. "redshift-gtk" is the package
name, though, so that's what it's listed as in Synaptic and what you would
put as the package to install with e.g. apt-get.
I can't tell if I'm in the ballpark but judge for yourself.
$ sudo apt install fonts-sil-galatia
Install package 'fonts-sil-galatia' and try again.
This is what I get after installation (Onboard on-screen keyboard).
"You can also install the packet "redshift-gtk" to have a gui on your
desktop."
From where can one download this packet? It's not in the "Add/Remove
Applications" in Trisquel.
"I see. Could you fully describe the expected behaviour?"
I attached a screenshot of the keyboard layout of Greek Polytonic in macOS.
You'll see, by comparing it with the one in Trisquel (see the OP), that there
are diacritics and combinations thereof that are missing. Also, what you see
