"Open Source" is a misconception. So is "FOSS" or "FLOSS". Why not just say
"free/libre software"?

I checked and it says caja.
I think it might be due to the fact that I installed and uninstalled firejail
a couple times. Between running firectl and firejail it might have messed up
the way caja runs... But I checked in /usr/local/bin and all the symlinks

The desktop icons are provided by Caja, MATE's file manager. If the desktop

Hey guys,
Recently my Trisquel 8 started misbehaving. When I boot, desktop shows no
icons and right clicking gives no menu. If I go to "MATE Tweak" the "Show
icons on desktop" is checked and even unchecking/chekcing it again gives no
result.
HOWEVER, if I open a folder first, and then do

I think FOSS is not dying,instead Open Source world has taken incredible
momentum. It's really sad that companies like MS are buying influence over
Linux world such as Linux Foundation and not supporting FOSS.
I haven't seen a MS's program that is under GPL license or a g**gle's one.

It shouldn't matter which way you do what you're trying to do. Synaptic is a
frontend GUI for apt.
That said, I'm not at all sure what your incentive is. I understood, maybe
mistakenly, that you for some reason unknown need to run Trisquel off a live
CD/DVD.
