Look Magic Banana I don't Linux lessons, I've been using Linux for 11 years,
I'm far from being a newbie that needs to be told what it is and isn't...
You're being rude and condescending!
Any of us has the right to call something junk when it is. I said Plymouth

I want to bring this to everyone's attention that as a GNU Libre Linux user,
when possible I spread the word online.
I'm a member of the Wilders Security Forum, which happens to be an official
support forum of many big name software companies, so Wilders does get a
pretty big share of peopl
Thanks Mampir...
This Plymouth boot screen is still junk, Ubuntu along with all the distros
out there and Trisquel is just as much to blame, they all have problems like
this.
It's like whoever is developing this thing and those putting it on their
distro like Trisquel, no one seems to be
I think not caring goes to a point, but the fact that the EU stood up against
WMP and IE and ripped one out and made it so when you started MS for the
first time and were offered browser alternatives shows a concern over
companies that try to corner the market.
So I guess the problem is, no
ahh bonehead me yeah the Direct Rendering Manager, LOL...
Don't know why I was thinking for a sec there of the Digital one, hehe...
Ok Magic Banana, you're saying it makes use of KMS, well then my ATI chip
should be taking advantage of this because the HD3200 chip takes advantage
and uses KMS, I know because I have personally compiled my own kernel in the
past for Slackware and enabled the KMS support and it was great, fa
Sorry I'm lost here, what does DRM have to do with a video driver?
Michał Masłowski was also talking about security problems, what sort of
problems are these?
THANKS
Well somethings wrong here, because when I was running Slackware with just
OpenBox, OpenBox would cause the same thing and all I was using was the
Radeon KMS in the kernel and in the obconf I was able to turn this off.
Forgot what it was, but I was able to get rid of it in OpenBox, so I would
What's wrong with Radeon KMS support in the kernel?
It shouldn't matter what chip you use, we are only talk about an image...
I don't get what Radeon has to do with anything here...
THANKS
The problem is not Proprietary vs OpenSource the problem is to not allow
anyone to dominate.
What I'd like to know is why the computer world at large allowed Adobe to
take control of this situation and corner?
The EU certainly didn't allow that with the Windows Media Player that is now

ok my bad I didn't realize or forgot about hitting Enter, hehe...

To me this reads as a VLC plugin;
http://postimage.org/image/2vpaeznic/
Darn I was hoping Linterna Mágica would work on all streaming media
online...
I might have to go back to Ubuntu, the Internet for my work is to important
and it all has to work 100%...
THANKS
Sorry didn't mean to sound rude in the post, I just think that as nice as
Trisqule is, it should have a much nicer looking boot logo...
In Web Browser I see there is plugin 'VLC Multimedia Plugin' but below it, it
says; 'The Totem 2.32.0 plugin handles video and audio streams'
So what is this VLC or Totem?
I disabled FVR in Web Browser but at CNN's site for videos nothing plays...

When I minimize a window, the window is blank and all you can see is a small
black border and I remember seeing this effect once before and I was able to
get rid of it, but can't remember...
Anyone know how I can get rid of this effect, so you just see the whole
window minimize?
Here's a
I was hoping with the Radeon KMS it might work...
Ahhh my bad for asking here...
Ok done;
https://trisquel.info/en/issues/3610
THANKS SirGrant! :)
ivaylo why do you recommend Totem? I've personally never been a fan of Totem,
I really do like however VLC...
So why Totem?
THANKS
Sorry SirGrant, I mean the situation is junk not gnash or Trisquel...
I just mean this situation we are in is just not acceptable and it's ashame
that something hasn't been done sooner to get us into our Freedoms now, so we
could be free from all this mess.
I don't like having to be stuck w
I just installed 4.5 x86_64 and I use VPN and I noticed that eth0 has a
network notification popup when you are connected and disconnected so I'm
assuming so does WiFi, but someone forgot to put in a notification popup for
VPN... :(
There is after all a VPN Network Manager plugin, so can so
libnotify1 is installed in Trisquel by default, I'm using 4.5...
I thought that's all that's needed?
Yes that's right, I forgot I was told it can all be done in HTML5 and that's
what's coming next...
Ok with the Linterna Mágica can it work in Trisquel 4.5 Web Browser, or do
I need to get Firefox 4 for it?
I grabbed the .js script and placed it in the Web Browser path;
~/.mozilla/firefox/
Well it works on my card in Ubuntu so not sure it's because of the ATI
drivers or the Radeon one in X worked, I'll check out Ubuntu later to see
which it was...
So for that America's Army site as an example there is nothing that can be
done, nothing works?
This is one very BIG reason why I don't really use Trisquel or any other
Libre distro
I just installed 4.5 to check it out, I like to play around with distros, but
honestly if all sites can
Sorry forgot to mention this is in 4.5 x86_64...

In the workspace switcher properties you are suppose to be able to rename the
workspaces and you can't, also everything that comes after the 3rd workspace
that you add gets named 'Workspace' and you can't remove that name and just
leave it as a number;
Here's a screen shot;

Well I don't do much in the way of flash online, but when I do it's nice to
know it works, not just for video, but flash on a site...
Here, perfect example of a game I use to play that has Flash animation on the
site;

So now with the flash on the homepage how d
Since Trisquel is based on Ubuntu I would of thought there would be network
pop up ballon messages on the desktop of Gnome, but there isn't...
Anyway we can get this implemented soon, or I can enable?
I use the VPN network plugin and it would be nice to see these notifications,
so when my VP
I'm running 4.5 x86_64 and when the Plymouth Trisquel Logo appears after grub
boots, after a few seconds, kernel/dmesg text will appear in front of the
logo on the screen...
Looks like a real mess, and these kernel messages should be staying in the
background behind the logo, so I hope soon
When I right click the desktop; Change Desktop Background - Visual Effects
and click Normal I get a popup; Desktop Effects Could Not Be Enabled...
Well this is a first for me in a Linux distro, not being able to run

@prvteprts what do you mean you disabled FVR and have flashblock enabled,
please explain how you did this and to watch in stream format, what do you
mean by this too?
I disabled cookies and YouTube videos work, but this can be a pain constantly
needing to do this in order to watch...

But now I can also see the other side that having only these ATI drivers is
also not giving me much Liberty or many free choices to choose from, that I
see, but at least we get them for free, that I think is still a good point
and YES of course I wish they were open-source which I personally
Well there are two different points to software when it comes to Freedom.
1. Free Software
2. Open Source
Free software can be proprietary or open source. Perfect example as I've been
talking about all along, the ATI drivers are proprietary, but they are free,
they do not cost us money, ther
ATI and Nvidia drivers do not cost consumers any money to use them, so
someone please explain why these are bad?
What is wrong with a coder developing their own software and keeping it
proprietary if they want to? After all it is really their software not ours?
No one here using GNU/Linux o
I'm not trying to promote non-free at all.
The reality is I have a computer and I need to use it now.
Sure 100% Free would be great, but if I have to use Adobe Flash and the ATI
drivers to get Trisquel to work, then I think this is more freedom then using
Ubuntu. ;)
It's nice to dream right now but the facts are you can only go out and buy
what you can afford to buy.
My laptop only cost me $200 brand new, now in order for me to go out and get
the same quality in a laptop that will work with all free software for the
work and pleasure I'd like it for is
I did uninstall swfdec and installed Gnash, but it still didn't work.
The drivers aren't much of a problem at all, I've used them just fine in
other distros.
You have to run aticonfig --initial in Ubuntu and other distros to ensure the
xorg.conf has been changed.
I'd love to run 100% free but it's not a reality with some hardware.
I love using 100% free, but honestly not everything works good like this I'm
sorry to say and like someone else said I don't want to be a traitor to the
cause of 100% Free GNU/Linux like Trisquel which is really great, but I want
my computer to work like it should in the 21st century.
I tri
I installed Trisquel 3.5 for x64 then after it was installed, the first thing
I did was install Gnash and the plugin and Gnash didn't work.
Thanks for the reply, but to many hassles just to surf the web, this is just
another reason why I'm not using a Free distro like Trisquel, it's just not
ready for normal usage.
I can't be bothered...
Maybe in a year things will improve, maybe not...
THANKS
I installed gnash and made a symlink for it to the usr/lib/firefox/plugins
directory and flash didn't work and swfdec has a symlink in that path called
flashplugin-alternative.so and flash isn't working with that either.
What gives, why can't I get flash to work?
THANKS
Would be nice if we could get this made into a .deb package to install.
THANKS
After installing Gnash I noticed I could not surf to most websites. In
Firefox I'm not getting the server not found page.
I don't know what's going on now or if it's poor driver support with my
Atheros ethernet and wifi.

Sorry kill the purple, that's the look in Ubuntu Lucid.
We need a different color.
lspci shows this for my WiFi:
02:00.0 Network controller: Atheros Communications Inc. AR9285 Wireless
Network Adapter (PCI-Express) (rev 01)
My WiFi is always disconnecting, is there anyway to improve the support for
it?
I hope there can be an update to improve the connection.
THANKS
Reject all of this how, so this really makes an impact? I've been into Linux
distros for 10 years and since that time I've hardly seen things improve.
Distros like Ubuntu that have advanced Linux have done so in the realm of
popularity and hardware support, but all in the name it seems toward
The tearing is in the video on the screen, this is a known problem that has
existed for a number of years with X and ATI.
I thought it was actually a problem fixed in Xorg without the need for the
radeon kernel blob.
I've never heard of the Dragon Player but I'll give it a go.
THANKS
I just want to be able to watch videos without screen tearing and a little
bit better graphical quality because also with the X drivers videos tend to
have a more pixelated look to them, not as clean looking at times, meaning
you can see pixles on the video appear, sometimes just a few and th
You know, I came into using Linux to have freedom and for a long time I use
to think that all Linux was free and then as the years went by I realized
this is not true and I really think it's crap that someone like Linus would
lock us into having problems like this.
So the question is, how d
When you say it's ATI's duty, I'm talking about the Xorg driver.
You don't think there can be anything done to improve this?
What is wrong with the Xorg Radeon driver that is suppose to work?
Here's is Xorg's link to this driver.

quidam, I'm Xgates on the Freenode IRC server, I was in your chat room
talking to you about my laptop running an ATI 3200HD chip and getting the
screen tearing.
With what you explained to me I don't know if it's possible to eventually
correct the screen tearing in Trisquel, since you mentio
