If it is it certainly happened at a very unfortunate time. Like probably most here, I remember reading stories about samsung uefi laptops getting bricked by linux but I'm assuming that simply switching from uefi to bios mode and net-installing wouldn't cause a freeze like I've described?

Hi! I'm trying to get hardware acceleration working so I can run gnome shell. The computer in question has a haswell i3-4130 processor with the HD4400 graphics chip. I tried installing jxself's latest linux-libre kernel but that didn't seem to work. Is there anything else I can try or am I

Further to my second question...the error message given when I try to boot from the netinstall disc is Machine check error. I expect it's related a some bios setting, but quite which one I don't know.

That's interesting. My computer has the athlon 64 4600+ processor but with a nvidia graphics card and I get the exact same problem with only the gnome edition of trisquel - I cannot get past the log-in screen on the live cd and if I install it then the screen goes black for a split second
