I can confirm that the Netgear WG111v3 works fine with Trisquel. Both the 4.0 version on my FSF usb card and the 4.5 version installed on my disk. I've even used it for injection on other systems with a LiveDVD booting.

You can disable the counted checking with tune2fs -c 0 /dev/sdX or even at filesystem creation. The newer code base for e2fsprogs actually switches the default to never checking based on number of mounts or time. See the following URL for the changelog stating this.
