Hi I tried to upgrade from Trisquel6 using sudo apt-get dist-upgrade and got
an error message "libkontactinterface4 needs to be reinstalled"
Any ideas.
Thanks.
Rescatux nailed the problem. 7 is now booting just fine.
I upgraded from 6 to 7 thinking everything would be hunky dory. I am having
this problem and can't even get to a terminal to update this. Would you
suggest using something like rescatux to edit the grub 2 file?
What's wrong with this:

And then building from this platform up?
Thanks Quidam. There was another article in Linux Voice issue 4 which spoke
about Trisquel as well.
Now don't shoot me for using the word "linux" because I know people on here
are touchy. The magazine is Linux Format.
I happened to pick up a magazine this week and it was doing the usual best
distro of 2014. It subdivided each distro into families i.e. Fedora, Ubuntu
etc. Trisquel was voted best of breed in the Ubuntu derivatives! I was
shocked but not surprised as it is the best!
Hi David,
I would try booting to a live session and then reformatting the partition
where you planned to install Trisquel. Do you have multiple primary
partitions or drives as this can cause an issue.
This is an old issue with Trisquel and Prism Break. He doesn't even care.
As it has been said before, just because he thinks Ubuntu is "spyware" (which
can be turned off see fixubuntu.com by an EFF advocate), he therefore
concluded that Trisquel must be because it's based on Ubuntu. Nothing
I would thought this kind of thing would be scripted to pull down the
updates, no?
Sounds like a corrupted image to me. I would re-download the Trisquel iso
again from your windows partition and try to reinstall again. You may need
to use a decent usb creator to recreate your image.

You could try go-mtpfs to see if that helps to make your phone visible in the

It was Trisquel 6.0. This was last year, it may have improved since then. I
don't like buggy software on my system. Just a comment, to some the default
desktop may be "ugly" but I was more impressed with the fact that the distro
just worked and detected my hardware and the performance was s
I tried to install Cinnamon on Trisquel and I hit nothing but problems.
Nemo kept crashing so I uninstalled it.
This answers the comments made by Jacob appelbaum in a previous thread about

G4JC, did you find cinnamon stable as when I last installed on Tris I got
errors relating to nemo crashing?
You could try Rescatux:

Hi Masipay,
I'll try and help you as that is what community is about.
I had this problem previously and used something like this from the Ubunutu
forums:
Hey, I just fixed the same problem on my pc. Here is a step by step guide
that should work for you.

I would try downloading a fresh iso from below. I think it could be a

Hi, I solved this problem about two weeks back as I had a Netgear WNA1100
with the same issue. I'll send you the link I used for the driver.
Sachin, the magazine that these guys used to write for did a 6 page spread on
Trisquel and the free software foundation. It was that article which
encouraged me to use Trisquel. More people need to wake up to true free
software.
The majority of Linux Format staff have walked out and are trying to start
their own magazine through funding:

Installed Mint once so don't really know if I am sure about the repos? I
followed a forum post on here about a few users who were running Tris 6.0
with cinnamon installed. I looked for the error message that I got regarding
cinnamon in this forum but didn't see any other comments about it.
Hi,
Am loving Trisquel right now. It's how Ubuntu should run except without all
the bloat! Followed the documentation for making my own trisquel but I added
a few extra steps as I didn't have the right desktop. I found that to get
the look and feel of the regular Trisquel download you nee
