Yea. We haven't had anybody else report such absurdly high fees to Italy or
anywhere else. The roughtly 20% import tax (VAT) is normal for many countries
on most if not all of our products.
Even if the VAT now is at 23%, the additional fee is unexplained. I would
prefer give them to Trisquel...
I'd really like to know how customs managed to screw it up that badly. I just
took a look at what it should have been. There should not have been any duty
for a wifi card in Italy and the VAT should have been 21%. The VAT is high
enough as it is that they don't need to charge more than the co
The goods has arrived! But at what price ... € 63 duty! Thats incredible.
Obviously isn't fault of ThinkPenguin.
Now I will try all
You will install Trisquel on a 16Mhz M68K? How well does that work?
This is exactly what I need for my main desktop and my "MacTop" project I'm
working on. (I am taking an old Macintosh Classic II, stripping the Apple
logos and using nothing but Trisquel and Free Software on this portable CLI
machine)

Yea- unfortunately I'm not sure we can do much about it. That mostly depends
on Italy and if it is part of the free trade zone. From what I understand if
we setup operation in the UK and ship from the UK it would bypass customs
entirely for many countries in Europe. My understanding is there
Chris, you are quite right.
I forgot a part of speech
I know that in Italy the delays are often due to storage at the custom, so it
is likely that the goods was arrived in about ten days, but ...
Sometimes the packs are "lost" in the world of nothingness.
Ciao
Same as tius, I wasn't bothered about the time it took. It was meant more as
a guideline in case anybody else orders from SA.
If it's worth anything, I ordered a book from somebody (not a company) in the
US at the end of 2010 and it was sent as priority mail. The book took more
than 2 month
:) Glad to hear. Still it is something we need to consider for others.
I'm not worried about the time at which I received the goods, I'll let you
know when the second package arrives.
Interesting. We haven't seen long shipping times for Italy before although
that may be coincidental. I would be interested in finding out how long it
takes for the second package to arrive. You guys are providing some great
feedback. We have always known Italy has some strict customs enforcem
I performed a small purchase from ThinkPenguin. The goods came to me,
in Italy, after about a month. And overall I am satisfied, even for
after-sales service (thanks Chris).
Now I'm waiting for a router and USB wifi adapter, to create a home wifi net.
I hope that everything works :-)
Ciao
Trisquel is still using the ar9170usb driver for the 802.11N USB card. The
newer carl9170 firmware is actually better for the 802.11N USB card. Fewer
compatibility issues. Unfortunately 802.11N does not always work as well with
some devices (different standards and implementations). The newer
I received my Atheros USB wireless adapter two days ago and it works
beautifully! I don't have the issue of it heating up, but it does have some
kind of energy conservation feature where if I don't use it after a certain
amount of time, it disconnects from the network. It's easy to turn it
I got my USB Wifi stick in the mail today.
Just a really quick, mini review so far:
Test machine: Thinkpad T61 with built-in Intel 4965AGN wireless
I disabled my on-board Wifi in the BIOS, booted, plugged the stick in,
enabled the hardware wireless switch, and then I could select my connection
