For the time being and for annoying reasons I'm stuck with Debian on my
Librebooted x200.
I am not sure whether I am then running a free OS. If I understand FSF
correctly, this can be obtained by un-installing or disabling Debians 'main'
and 'contrib' repositories

Thanks.

meh?
pretty sure meh means indifference,
but on an unrelated note,
I am currently using debian but with one catch!
linux libre 4.1! thanks Jxself!
Yes agreed, don't make a franken-debian... is in the debian guide but I am
too lazy to look it up. so meh...
Are you telling me, that my kernel is (probably) not free?
actually, yes and no! the nonfree parts are disabled by default. but if you
want it to truly be free in every sense than do what I did.
Is it cumbersome to install linux libre?
It mostly works fine for me, with one exception,
it did me no harm, but before you accept it as the only kernel make sure you
are
satisfied and reboot once also...
also follow jxself's instructions completely especially the libreboot part!
since
you are also using it.
Thanks. I might try that, once I've gotten my librebooted machine to work.
If you have used Full Disk Encryption, let me know how you got it to boot.
Ha ha. That is still an unsolved problem. I've been struggling for so
long time now. I just wrote Leah Rowe to ask for further/clearer instructions
There is no proprietary software in the version of Linux distributed by
Debian. It's deblobbed in almost the same way as Linux-libre. The primary
difference is that Linux-libre removes references to the names of firmware
files as well, and this has a side effect of making it impossible to loa
BTW, I'm trying to install IceCat from a tarball. I would expect to see a
.deb file for installation but there is none. How/what do I install?
Ok. I'm not sure I undertstand what you mean by "unintended side effect of
making it impossible to load said proprietary firmware." though.
How far/close did you get?
Basically, if you have the proprietary firmware file (the one that has been
removed by deblobbing), it will work in Debian's kernel, but not Linux-libre,
because Linux-libre doesn't know to look for that file. This is a
long-standing Linux-libre bug.
>actually, yes and no! the nonfree parts are disabled by default. but if you

yeah, because the difference between a kernel that has 0 proprietary firmware
and another one that has 0 proprietary firmware is absolutely
huge..
I have full disk encryption debian on my librebooted x200. Its simple, you
just need to boot manually with the grub cmd first time and then reflash
libreboot with a new grub config
