While I second the MIGHT, it seems likely that the perennial high-performing
non-conference schools (football equivalent of those mid-majors in the NCAA
basketball tournament) would be squeezed out of contention by the
superconferences.

The only upside to some sort of superconference system is that a REAL
football playoff system might be a realistic possibility. MIGHT.

At what point during this whole epic shuffle do the bowls and their respective

I'm not really sure I follow your logic. ND isn't a member of the Big East

basketball and other sports, but football is their prestige program. ND
won't join the Big East for football just to prop up the conference - the
Notre Dame can join whatever conference they want tomorrow. The question is
do they want to. ND values their football independence and if the Big East
conference can be saved then Notre Dame doesn't need to make a move.

Is apparently now moot. I saw a brief update on one of the worldwide leader's
channels that Mr. World Peace (nee Artest) was eliminated. As for the NBA
lockout, no resolution seems on the near horizon.

Most of this article is about the history of college football deals
with network TV. The gist of the story is that ratings for Notre Dame
football are dropping, especially among young males and the question
is raised of Comcast's interest in extending the contract.
