One of the last things Tom Heald and I ever talked about was our shared enjoyment of the late, lamented "Penn Jillette Show" that originated from a radio studio built in Penn's home in Las Vegas (a few weeks before his passing, Tom had found a site that archived the podcast of all the radio shows). Jillette has no vocal charisma whatsoever, nor is her particularly engaging as the host of a show. Despite that, I find myself compelled to hear his rants and raves.
Penn is back in the old studio with his new podcast, "Penn Point," and it is good, but better if you listen to it rather than hear it. I appreciate that Penn and his crew are trying new things with video, but the old axiom in TV news is that you never hand the microphone over to the man-on-the-street, so it follows that in video podcasting you should never hand a camera over to the host to record himself. The shaky camerawork makes "NYPD Blue" look like "Dragnet." So just ignore the video and endure the raspy voiced audio and you'll most likely hear some entertaining stories and observations. http://revision3.com/pennpoint -- Kevin M.
