I am much less ashamed to admit that I have stayed with Fringe all the way
though - there was always something interesting about it, and it has gotten
better as it has gone along. Anna Torv has become tolerable, her character
almost intriguing with added back story, and the supporting characters,
always great, have become even better.

In Dollhouse supporting actor Enver Gjokaj stole the show, on Fringe, the
thief has clearly been John Noble. He had a short but powerful scene at the
end of the show two episodes, when he saw that Agent Farnsworth had been
hurt, inadvertently his fault, that was breathtaking. He has been a joy
throughout the series.

I write this because I just noticed the Golden Globe nominations for best
supporting television actor (I did not realize that they combine drama,
comedy and mini-series in one category):

a. MICHAEL EMERSON LOST
b. NEIL PATRICK HARRIS HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER
c. WILLIAM HURT DAMAGES
d. JOHN LITHGOW DEXTER
e. JEREMY PIVEN ENTOURAGE

I don't watch "How I Met Your Mother" or Entourage, so I guess the following
rant will be compromised; I have seen every episode of the other three shows
- I can't believe that four of these actors did a better job than either
Gjokaj or Noble over the last year. Lithgow (who must win the GG from this
group of 5) was superb on Dexter this season, but only the quality of his
material makes him more deserving than Gjokaj or Noble.

I suppose someone will want to note here that the Golden Globes are a joke
played upon the entertainment world by a few dozen drunk old international
tabloid writers who wouldn't know quality acting from a free martini at an
open bar. Perhaps, but the point remains that there are some really great
actors laboring in shows that are likely to be critically ignored, and that
is too bad.

Footnote: For all of the media notice he gets I assumed that NPH was the
star, not the supporting player, in "Mother"...
