This was one of the seminal TV shows off my life. I watched the original run,
the reruns, the syndicated shows (hated the openings off the ones where they
changed the theme music due to rights fees), and Tom Selleck was and remains
one of my favorite actors.

While I suppose the 5-0 leads are comparable between series, Lucas Till is no
Richard Dean Anderson. (George Eads could be a Bruce McGill, but that's a
different debate.)
For whatever reason, and YMMV, those shows do
At its core, Magnum was smarter than most 80s detective shows. There was
the dynamic of three functional Vietnam vets still connected years after
the war. There was Rick’s underworld connections, TC’s chopper service
customers, and Higgins upper-crust connections to add variety to the
stories.
