Thanks for posting that -- unaired footage that might have been lost.
This is now off-topic, but I've been to DC twice for conferences at the
Hilton, and have always been intrigued that the site of the assassination
attempt hasn't been marked in some way by either the hotel or another
group.

If you watch the video, you do see one person in a suit go up to Bush,
and Bush gives him a gentle hand push as if to say "I'm okay."
My two cents: During the presidential campaign, McCain stayed in the
same hotel I did. A lot of his staffers were on the same floor I was,
so there were agents on

The other factor to consider is that I'm sure the Secret Service is
trained to considered the totality of risk in the room in the case of
a real, more coordinated attack. One person throwing shoes could be a

I'm surprised that nobody is talking about the insult of this act. In
that corner of our world, being hit by a shoe is considered the
ultimate affront. Worse than being damned to Hell.
Of course Bush would have to comprehend the culture in order to
actually be insulted.

I have looked but not found details about the President's security
arrangements when he travels in a war zone. The Secret Service is
responsible for his protection even when he travels abroad - but when
he goes to a war zone, I assume they must collaborate with the Defense
Department; it is possib
