I've watched every season, and I do not recall a dual 30 minute elimination
in a one-hour episode before this season. I guess they produced one more
episode than they ultimately were granted broadcast slots.

Right. But again, my memory is that in those cases, the shows where they
eliminated two were two-hour shows. What I do not recall is a double
elimination, with two elimination challenges over at least two different
days, all crammed into one 60-minute show.

I haven't watched Survivor in a few years, but I definitely remember
several seasons where the finale started with five contestants and then two
were eliminated in challenges to get down to a final vote of three.
Wikipedia suggests that Fiji Islands (aka Race War) did this --

They had a lot of contestants this season and adjustments from two tribes
to three tribes back to two tribes before the merge--and at least one
dropout. I don't recall them having as many as five contestants left as of
the beginning of the last episode of the season.

Yes - but in a single one hour episode with two elimination challenges?
That's the part that seems unusual to me.

I think I just saw two episodes of Survivor edited down to one single
"hour" show. Why did they do that, and have they done it before?
I know they often have a 2-hour show with 2 episodes at or near the end of
the season, and I think maybe once they had a surprise second elimination
